I understand the website and content creator each own the content, but let's take Yelp or CitySearch as an example, does the business that the review(s) are written about have a stake in ownership as well? Can a Mom & Pop lay claim to the reviews written about their pizza joint on Yelp? Seems like they should be able to claim ownership, too.

Re: KIN Lessons

Bummer for the Danger guys. They used to go to the same Peet's I did and it was always fun to see what they were up to with the next rev of the device or the OS while waiting in line for morning Coffee.

So sad: "But when the leaders are all incompetent, we just wanted out. "

I always saw MSFT building some of the crap they built as a choice, like "we don't have to make it any better than this because it will still sell 10 Million copies" etc. Sounds like an awful corporate culture, though I have heard some good things about specific groups like Bing. Regardless acquisitions are almost always tough (as we know).

Re: Everyone Can Be A Radio Advertiser

Does a $2.50-$4 CPM seem pricey to anyone else?

How does this compare with regular radio? How does this compare to video pre-roll ads the user is pretty much forced to watch?

Re: On foursquare, cheating, and claiming mayorships from your couch…

Cool, fair is fair, cheaters suck and all that.

Maybe other handsets have awesome GPS, but the problem I see here is the iPhone. Nearly every GPS app maker has described to me in excruciating detail how very terrible the GPS is in the iPhone is and that Apple knows this.

I don't know the details, but I could see this being a problem like @sally mentioned.

Re: DIY Whiteboard for the Home Office incredibly easy, cheap

Thanks!

And yes, we now have Red, Green, Blue and Black for our ultra-cheap whiteboard. And in-between all the notes from interviews and reminders on the board Vivian has instructed me to draw the following, seemingly at random:

-Snowman
-Reindeer
-Happy Faces
-Bunny
-Daddy w/ glasses on
-Daddy Yawning

It won't be long before we have an entire forest of characters up there.

Re: Open as in water, the fluid necessary for life

That's the trick, what needs to happen is the payoff. That all of these mundane little updates will add up to awesome connections, interesting snips and books to read and of course fun things to do.

I haven't seen too many services start to payoff yet, but I hope Facebook and others will enable this type of discovery within itself and other services.

Re: The unknown story behind CitySourced

Exciting!

I'm very curious to hear what their definition of "signing up" is and what cities think they need to do in order to make the process work.

There is a difference between setting up a dead-simple issue reporting channel and the city actually committing to resolve those problems.

Re: The unknown story behind CitySourced

Kurt - I like that confidence!

I was willing to try the app since I live a few miles from San Jose, but I couldn't find it in the appstore. Let me know if you need another beta tester or if there is a way to get the app I'm missing.

You may also want to consider giving access to folks who don't own iPhone or Pre. In my neighborhood in Sunnyvale at least 20% of the voters don't even have email.

Re: The unknown story behind CitySourced

Cool idea. But I think it's just that, an idea, not really a business -- not until cities are on board and actually engaged. I shouldn't need an iPhone or Palm Pre to participate, either.

Meanwhile, Yahoo! Local is actually helping people help themselves: http://local.yahoo.com/neig... no iPhone required.

(disclaimer I helped bring this product to life when I was at Y!)

Re: Thoughts on the Palm Pre, G2, and iPhone 3G

Great post, makes me want to try the g2, and the pre (again). But I'm pretty happy in iPhone 3G land a year later.

It's really too bad about the app approval process over at Apple, I've read this time and time again. I'm going to see a few of those guys from Apple tomorrow if you want me to deliver any "feedback."

I thought it was funny when you mentioned diminished goodwill "not as much as when I had to admin a labful of OS9 Macs", I'm dating myself here but when I was in my 4th year at UC I admin'd a bunch of grad labs that must have had OS 7.5+. I must have had 30 macs in the labs + more individual workstations and it was a like a full time job re-installing the OS and disabling extensions. I realize now that it was shortly thereafter, ~ pre-2000 that I became a PC person for many, many years. What a piece of junk that OS was for quite a while, and now 10 years later I'm starting to see the light and come back around. Way to go Steve!

Re: On Application Development

Woah!
