As an insurance professional you know how expensive health insurance is. Most employers do not offer ANY retiree health insurance, so to most of us this is a very nice benefit. Also, you chose the most expensive plan choice to use in your letter, you could choose one of the other plans that have a copay or deductible (which is probably what you had before for $18) and it would be much less. They have plans that are as low as $60/month. I do agree that the spousal coverage isn't great , but like I said most people don't have ANY retiree plan at all. I understand that this was a benefit promised back in a time when things were much different, I think they have made a compromise that should be good for both employer/retiree. As for years to come, not sure how well it will work if they don't raise those amounts.

Yes you are probably right, not safe with paper either if they enter your info into the computer...I mean really your account and routing numbers are right on your checks....

I agree with Mitzy1991.The spouses employer is saving money therefore gives a buyout. On the other hand the school district now has the family plan costs to pay...do the saugerties employees pay for their insurance (percentage?)? If they do then I do not understand what the problem is here.... A person would have to weigh which plan costs more out of pocket...skip the buyout and go on the school districts plan then...not really solving anything here.

I have been in my neighborhood for over 20 years as well, and I have seen it change throughout the years. However I still feel that it is not as bad as other areas in the city. If it is true that it's one of the poorest areas then why do my taxes keep going up up up? They just did the darn assessment and raised the values...???!!

since when do we all have to pay for something that a community wants...it isn't even necessary. It might be a great
project but the average tax payer should not be responsible. Esp at that inflated price..Lets get real..the community can do amazing things if they want it and instead of putting it in the government process...

You are right on!!!!!!!! I have contacted my senators more than once..email and phone. Also called about 15 of them Thursday to register my wished. Now I have sent emails to ..about 90. I will call again Monday AM before the pm vote.

I have told my senators that my vote will be important in the future also.
