(Bush's version has some "whoas" too, I think, but I just love the Futureheads version so much!

Re: Instructions for Becoming a Sketcher

Hi Jesse,

Two of my favorite places to pick up sketching supplies in SF are Flax on Mission and the kinokuniya stationery store in Japantown. (The kinokuniya bookstore, across the hallway in the same mall is a great source for visual inspiration, by the way.)

As for paper, I don't now as much about that, I must confess. I've gotten in the habit of buying pretty heavy paper stock for my sketchbooks, because I'm trying to learn watercolor, and I've learned (the hard way) that watercolor makes regular paper buckle.

Anyway, would love to hear if you have any interesting insights of your own on tools and paper.

All the best,
Leah

Re: Thank you, Apple

If memory serves, I don't think i could have done it quite as quickly
on a Windows machine. I did used to have an HP laptop that had a
physical switch to turn off wifi. That would have been quicker than
the Mac. But even using, say, the shortcut in the task tray on a
Windows machine, I think there are still a few too many windows/
dialogs to contend with to halt my embarrassing email in the nick of
time.

Re: ugleah

Hi Jonny,

Yes indeedy. Thanks for sharing your process. It's encouraging to hear that it can actually be done :)

Does it usually take as long as you estimate to do the work? Back when I was developing code (and frankly, even today in the more amorphous work that I'm doing) I found it hard to estimate accurately. How about you?

All the best,
Leah

Re: ugleah

Ah, that would be the awesome LCD System! Their typical sound is a bit more electronic and dance-y than this particular song, but it's all good stuff.

Re: ugleah

Hi Monica. I'm saving it off for future reference. I think it's full of all kinds of juicy morsels.

By the by, how DO you calculate your daily burndown as a UX professional? Is it just an estimate of how much time you expect it'll take to finish the remaining work? And how do you factor in unknowns like revision/iteration/incorporation of other's ideas?

Re: Caught red handed

Aw, you guys are the best. Seriously. I think i was being perhaps a wee bit overly sensitive, but all the supportive comments made it all wash away. Special thanks to Chiara, mistress of facts! I'm half tempted to go back and tell the guy that he doesn't know what he's talking about. If I weren't a fraidy cat.

Re: ugleah

Wow! Thanks for the sleuth-work, you guys. Who would have guess that this was just part of a bigger series of how-to-care-for-baby goodness? Unfortunately, now I'm beginning to think that it was all part of a clever joke, not someone's well-meaning attempt to make us all more responsible care minders. Sad.

Re: 3 mins / Montana bound

So true, Mike J! I rode my back to work yesterday morning for the first time in months and simply smelling the morning air and, exactly as you said, fresh cut grass, somehow made me happier than I've been in weeks.

I guess I forget sometimes that where I live is a lovely place too, but only if I take the time to look around to see it.

Re: 3 mins / Montana bound

Chiara, your friendship does me good.
