Most mobile phones can be connected via USB and you can easily transfer music, videos and any other data. But you cant transfer contacts, calenders, notes, messages, bookmarks etc. You cant sync specific phone contents. For instance without a pc suit, you cant add new maps to Nokia map software. I don't back up by phone to copy my music, they are not important. They already stored on my computer.
Also copying things from phone to computer, doesnt mean two way synchronization. Right?

Re: Nokia N900 - A mobile communicator that runs on Linux

Seems cool!
One question. If i buy this device will i be able to use it with my Ubuntu Linux?
For instance will i be able to back up and restore the device content? and/or will i be able to sync my contacts, calenders, notes with evolution etc..??

I think nokia pc suit and ovi suit dont have linux version yet. Even they dont have a plan about this..
