We let that one slip away along with the small car business. And the rest.
I would love to be able to buy American again.

Re: With DTV delay likely, some stations to switch anyway

Alright, I have just realized where the FCC made its biggest mistake re: the analog shutdown date. They should have mandated the turnoff before this year's Super Bowl game instead of after it. I'll bet that would have been an effective strategy to get the general public aware and motivated. Yeah, I know about the possibility of diminished revenue streams, etc., but there are some folks out there who will only respond to the possibity of negative consequences.
P.S. A personal observation: there are a lot of people, OTA and others, who don't consider television viewing to be the cornerstone of their lives.
I am willing to bet that the majority of those without converter boxes or DTV sets don't really care about the digital conversion, or television in general.
Being in "the business" it is my experience that we sometimes forget that maybe TV viewing is not universally relevant or important to other's lives as we would like to imagine. Why should we have to kowtow to the segment of the population that does not utilize or care for the services provided by broadcast television?
