Thank you Costa, for the presentations, and your passion. Even though we were already composting and avoiding single use and plastic bags etc, my wife and I found you really inspiring (and my compost is going to become more of a project now, and less left to its own devices).

I also want to say another thank you: I asked you a question after your talk, when you had little time till the next one, and half of Sydney getting photos taken with you; you started to answer me, but then getting ready intervened. I didn't want to bed pushy, so I decided I'd be happy with what you had told me, and i wandered off - only to have you come up to me later on, and continue. Your passion is a true inspiration.

Oh, and i thought #GetInTheBin was great advice (and excellently funny at the time)

#2 is a massive problem, conceptually as well as practically. The pricing issue is annoying too, but DRM is the single worst thing about eBooks. I strip DRM from eBooks I buy from other online stores, simply so that I can put them all into iBooks. I shouldn't have to do that. It's stupid and pointless - and doesn't do what it intends either: searching for books online turns up more pirated results than buying results (frustrating, when I want to buy it...)

That's really terrible. I know it's common (I recall some countries take it so far that the female birth rate is a fraction of the me) but its prevalence doesn't make it any less horrid.

The judge is awesome. The prospective grandfather appears to be a total twit.

My daughter was the best thing that ever happened to me - until my son came along; now they're 1st equal. I can't understand the mentality of any parent or grandparent who would prefer one gender over another.

That is mind-bogglingly unethical O_o You can't do that. You just can't. I've treated some most unsavory and disturbing people in my time (as in psychopaths rapists and murderers, not just offending someone's puritanical small-minded notion of 'nice') - and you just can't say no on that basis

Leaving aside the awful behaviour and truly pathetic lack of humanity and acceptance....

Thanks Mark. It's a common - and understandable - assumption. Discussing the issue can seem a bit contradictory: people who are mentally ill are at markedly elevated risk of suicide; people who attempt suicide are much more likely to be mentally ill ... but changes in the overall suicide rate reflect social changes, not treatment changes. For instance, while there was an increase in suicides in the Great Depression, and a decrease with both World Wars, there was no notable drop with the introduction of antidepressant or antipsychotic medications.

Individuals and populations respond in different ways, and need to be understood differently.

That whole Wicked Sensation album is one of the albums I can just listen to the whole thing over and over. \m/ New Lynch Mob cd - with Oni Logan! - is either out or coming out (I'm ashamed to say I can't remember :-/ ).

Amen. I know this comment is rather on the late side, but what a great post. 8) I had a similar "want to be a rock star!!" thing in the back of my (subconscious) mind for years, and realising it and letting it go was the first step to a number of things - music, as well as "real life" - getting better. Now I write, play, record, and post music - but just for me. The nice feedback is, well, nice - but the fact that I just do it for my own love of music makes it all that much more satisfying.
