I was at a Best Buy the other day (local electronics retailer), and I asked about how many people checkout with their contactless POS terminals. The clerk said very few seem to have credit cards that are contactless but even worse, the ease of checking out was diminished since everyone has to still sign for purchases over $25. And in a place like that, you're lucky to get out of there for less than $100 =O

Re: Day One… CTIA

Like James said, good stuff and keep it coming...wish I was there. Had to LOL about Omar though.

Re: Coming to a Country Near You, Contactless Mobile Payment Trials

NFC offers some excellent advantages in the mobile payment scenario in that it communicates over a very short distance. So you have to be in very close proximity when performing a transaction. Yet, as in any wireless situation, there are still other concerns to address so as to ensure a secured environment.

Secondly, I think people are less likely to get the heebie jeebies when using NFC cause again of the close proximity required versus other RFID technologies that broadcast over a greater range. This expanded coverage could open the door to tracking your movement without your knowledge.

Lastly, the chip's ability to work in passive mode by drawing its power from the terminal means that it doesn't have to leech from your phone's precious battery supply in order to function.
