We take your words seriously here and want you to know that we have two African-American columnists who write for On Being: Broderick Greer and Jennifer Bailey, and contributing editor Miguel Clark Mallet. That said, we are striving to bring more voices from many different perspectives and orientations to our blog; I welcome your suggestions and would gladly have my team research them for inclusion in our digital spaces. Many thanks and warm regards.

Re: Glenn Beck — What You Do Will Be a Pivot Point

Dear Isaac. Your reflection is heartening and a gift to all of us here at On Being. When producing this interview, we knew there would be people like you who would be challenged — even irritated — by our choice to give Mr. Beck a voice on our platform. And they would be justified in doing so; some folks just aren't ready to go there yet, which is understandable. Your willingness to enter in despite your misgivings and give us the benefit of the doubt is greatly appreciated. It takes a high level emotional intelligence and self-awareness and trust in us to listen beyond your skepticism. Thank you. —Trent (editor-in-chief)

Re: A Voice from Heaven

Duly noted!

Re: On Being Blog • Recently I heard a wonderful program on National...

Thank you. Although I'm not Jewish, my wife and I sent both of our children to a Jewish community center for child care and pre-K schooling. It's the rhythms of these holidays and the lessons embedded within these rituals that have been one of my greatest teachers — through the eyes of my children. I've been forever thankful for these lessons, and now your ability to put into words why these times of year and rituals are so important for a fallen man. Cheers to your hands and your health.

Re: http://blog.onbeing.org/post/21430875704

You are most welcome. It just brings to light how incredibly difficult it is to graphically represent the Holocaust in such a way and not tread on the myriad perspectives. The choice of "notable" has ruffled a few feathers, and perhaps there are better choices.

We found it interesting, which is why we published it, and wanted to share with all of our readers. While I was trying to understand it from a scientific angle (e.g., why are all the concentration camps part of the rare earth series?), I've learned others look at it from a relationship perspective or a taxonomical point of view. This all makes for a sticky discussion, but one that's taking place here and on our Twitter account. We respect that you raised these objections and want to thank you for contributing to this discussion.

Oh, yes, we're big fans of Tablet online, but On Being is responsible for this post.

Re: http://blog.onbeing.org/post/21019717293

Lorraine, I don't think you're supposed to feel other than what you actually do. The data was, simply put, surprising. At the end of life, these people who are often referred to as animals, something less than human, choose their last words often to be about love, family, and God. It stirs and challenges the mind, non? And, I think it's also human for the rest of us to be able to embrace that humanity and still hold them accountable for their crimes — no matter what form of punishment they receive. Thanks for weighing in on this graphic.

Re: http://blog.onbeing.org/post/19687765751

It sure will Debbie. We don't finish producing each week's show until Wednesday. Then it goes to a transcriptionist followed by a copy editor, so we usually don't post it until Friday afternoon. We'll have it up shortly.

With regard to the gospel story, it was merely coincidental but I greatly appreciate the heads-up! Great point.

Re: http://blog.onbeing.org/post/20897838933

We'll have it available tomorrow afternoon, along with a half dozen poems he recited for our website. Thanks for your feedback. I too am concerned with a few antagonistic few that are participating in the comment thread who are not willing to have open-hearted discussion. I've tried to moderate comments with the intention of allowing all types of voices to participate, but now I see this is getting in the way of vibrant conversation here.
