I like the idea of brand humility and "nimble shows", but I doubt it is only the designers who can make the great change.

Just another "trendy" article. It does no more than the cited "cutting down" or "opting for". And consumerism is created everywhere. Salone is just one source for that, but it is also an inspiration.

Agree, but not all of them. I like the new Ofuro bathtub. It is safe, curved and comfortable, as well as versatile.

Great idea, great implementation! Even if only a part of all the plastic packaging can be replaced with Soapack, this is a very good achievement and a proper direction of work on sustainability.

There is one thing I totally agree with: "To revert to beige is like taking the oblivion option, the head in the sand it's-nothing-to-do-with-me path. It speaks only of conformity, ubiquity and non-choice."

All other trends are nothing new. They started a couple of years – or more-ago. And they are just a logical return to the practical and wise approach of earlier generations to the way we live. Which is great :)

I cannot understand the negativity - the chair looks great and I like the idea. Not exactly for focus on work, but to offer some privacy in public areas. I hope it is as comfortable as it looks.

“With photos on Houzz, you can’t right-click and save them to your desktop, you can’t try to save them to another website—they’re pretty protected.” - not exactly: you are allowed to embed the photos on any site you have access to and after that they are accessible to anyone visiting this site including for easy saving. So, this is just a formal protection and a problem that has existed for years. I suppose that the concept of such platforms is directly connected with the possibility of copying - ideas and solutions.
'Look at the pretty picture—I want that!’ - this is the reason for visiting such platforms for a large part of the non-designers; most potential clients are willing to use the published interior design solutions for free and THAT is the real problem. Clients should understand that copying a pretty picture will not solve thier own problem and if they want something to work for them they should be ready to pay.

Trends are more a sociological phenomenon showing what people like and where we are going as a society. If we like the 70s style this shows that we are missing something from the atmosphere then.

This means designers have to think better what they offer and companies what will sell better. Of course, there are people who follow trends blindly – both in fashion and interior design, but good designers feel trends coming when they are still in the air :)
