Ask and ye shall receive as well! I say let that wild and wonderful (and only allegedly rabid) 3-year-old choose to move on from her former nap-filled life and explore a new world.

Replace those naps with every activity you can think of and see what sticks - puzzles, painting, building, music, stickers, etc. Eventually the tired tempers will disappear through the magic of distraction.

We just found a new one that's great during the summer: freeze a bunch of dinos or tiny toys in a bowl of ice, and then let them work at it with water and other tools until they free them. Our sales reflected the customer preference as well, we eventually stopped carrying our Single Hammock model and focus solely on the Double at this point because it's what works the best for most of our customers whether using it full-time for sleep or just for backyard comfort.

Re: Show all products as separate variants on the collection page of the Debut Theme

Has anyone successfully implemented this on the Turbo theme yet? I've learned that not only does everyone sleep differently on their own, we ALL sleep differently as couples. From big spoon to little spoon, side by side, and as far apart as possible, when talking to others about how they hammock sleep as couples I've heard it all.

So, while I can tell you what works great for me (lying at the usual hammock angle and spooning) I think the only real way to discover what works for you as a couple is to experiment. After all, even if you find the couples sleeping style that works great for you - it only works if your partner agrees too!

Re:

Devil's Advocate: Are There Times When A Tent Is A Better Option Than A Hammock?

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer here, so go with what your comfort level and gut tells you.

Tents certainly have the 'familiar' feel to them as an entry-level plus - when you break it down you're sleeping on a flat surface, surrounded by 4 walls, just like you are at home (presumably).

But, the camping experience itself is all about breaking away from that at-home feeling - it's the difference that unsettles you (from your routine, in a good way) - and so starting with a hammock is as good a way as any to get into camping in my book.

To be honest, I think a lot of people start with BOTH if your budget allows for it. In other words, you've got a tent setup and a hammock nearby - you give sleeping in the hammock a try one night and sleeping in the tent the next night and see what you liked or disliked with each. Then you move on to making improvements to fix whatever problems you come across (comfort, insulation, setup, etc.).

Re: These Aren’t The Hammocks You’re Looking For: How You’ve Been Hammock Brainwashed

Thanks Celeste - it always means a lot to hear that the effort I put into writing and sharing here is appreciated. How To Hang Your Hammock: The Only Guide You’ll Ever Need

If I'm understanding you correctly - no, you don't want to lay the hook on the top side of the knot. You want to hook or clip INTO the rope above the knot. The rope is doubled up on itself and you want the hook go in between the doubled up ropes above the knot. The hook should rest securely in the ropes that way and there's no way it should be able to come out unintentionally. Let me know if that doesn't clear it up for you!

Re:

I put 'correctly' in quotes only because everyone's preference can vary - there are those that might feel like a hammock is pulled too tight or not loose enough while the another sleeps great in the very same hammock setup.

Keep in mind that there's no universal hammock size or stand size, so it can be a bit confusing to mix and match if you're shopping online.

We sell a hammock stand on our site that when combined with our Double Hammock and rope kit (for adjustability) creates a great surface to sleep on.

Here's the link: https://www.treklightgear.c...

The topic of sleeping alone vs. together in a hammock is hotly debated - we have lots of customers who sleep as
a couple and love sharing the hammock together, and just as many that prefer to each have their own hammock. So it all boils down to what works for you!

Re:

I would still recommend a Double for you and you'd benefit from the extra room. The Single is only 5' wide so I usually use that as the general cut-off - but even those below 5' have told me they also still prefer the Double over the Single, so it really is the way to go in most cases!

Re: You’ve Been Hammock Brainwashed – Part II: The Human Waffle Effect

I missed this comment somehow, sorry @Judy Goff !

1.) Blankets are definitely an option and can usually be done without too much of a hassle. A hammock underquilt is also a great option for staying warm. You can purchase an underquilt or accomplish the same thing by clipping a blanket to the sides of your hammock so it covers the bottom of the hammock and keeps you warm underneath.

2.) Sharing a hammock is an area that definitely boils down to personal preference and it appears to be a very split consensus from the people I've talked to. I know a lot of couples that love sharing a hammock every night and sleep great and vice versa, I've spoken with lots who choose to sleep side by side, but each in their own hammock. There's unfortunately no easy answer to this one until you try it and see what works best for you as a couple!

3.) I've heard a lot of great feedback for snoring and sleep apnea when it comes to sleeping in a hammock. A lot of it seems to be the result of easily being able to elevate your head and body in whatever way works best for you - along with the elevated feeling and lack of real pressure points, it can help to open your airflow and reduce the obstructions that often lead to snoring and apnea.

Hope that helps and sorry I missed your comment the first time around!

Re: Why Sleeping In A Hammock Is Good For You

See my reply to your second comment above (or below)!

Re: Why Sleeping In A Hammock Is Good For You

I'm sorry to hear that your second night in a hammock didn't go well, Kelly. To be fair, if you read through the comment discussions on this and other pages on our site about hammock sleeping, you'll see that I engage with everyone's experience, good or bad, and stress the same overall points repeatedly:

1.) Don't expect instant results. Whether you've been sleeping on a $10K mattress or a mat on the floor, your body (and mind) gets very used to sleeping on the surfaces that represent 'home' and it's hard to switch.

While I hear from people all the time who spend one night in a hammock and have a life-changing experience, it's much more common that it can take several nights (possibly weeks for some) to adjust. It's no different than switching up a diet or eliminating a habit, our bodies often resist the change even if it's good.

2.) When it comes to sleep (and life) EVERYONE is different! Of course sleeping in a hammock isn't a universal solution that works for everyone. All of the advice you find here is what I've learned from years of my own experience, but more importantly from talking with thousands of people about their experiences. I've met lots of people who do the exact opposite of what I suggest in terms of how to hang the hammock, how to lie in it, etc. and they still swear by hammock sleeping their own way. To each their own, and whatever works best for you is what you should go with.

Truth be told, I can't write about the experience of trying to sleep in a hammock and having it not work. But this is an open forum and that's why feedback like yours is helpful to anyone reading looking for a contrasting experience. Though I do think you should give it more time (and make sure you're using the right hammock). ;)
