This article is reporting the results of a study, which is meant to look deeper than our subjective impressions to try to identify a trend. That doesn't mean we can't disagree with some aspect of how the study was conducted, but we should always be open to surprising results!

I think you mean the strong force fuzzy; for more info on the apparently different fundamental forces, click here. (I say "apparently" because phycisists would like to be able to show that these seemingly disparate forces are actually different manifestations of the same fundamental force!)

In this segment, Dr. Lederman addresses the question of what went on before the big bang, and his response is informed by ideas from Einstein's famous theory of gravitation, General Relativity. Here is an interesting post from Sean Carroll at the blog Cosmic Variance that explores some ideas on the topic within theoretical frameworks attempting to look beyond the scope of Einstein's theory.

Pretty cool, but it's a bummer that these studies are limited for those (like me) who would seemingly find it most useful/interesting, i.e., those who descend from a mix of countries. Chances are, if both of your parents are from the same country, the genetic information isn't telling you anything you don't already know, right?

We're testing two of the alternative services you mentioned above. The post planning feature is really nice to have because it allows more time for real time interaction and participation, which is the really meaningful part of a brand's presence on these channels. Both of the ones we're testing are flawed but certainly not critically, and they have ambitious product roadmaps.

I dig these charts guys, but the descriptions of the trends are super dry! "Good Friday is a holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary." I mean it's accurate and all, but doesn't that seem a little off, editorially? No bigz, just thought it was funny. :)

Hi David, I manage social for MTV and am a longtime fan of your work. Great article and discussion here, thanks everyone.

Just wanted to jump in and get specific about one particular point that's currently close to my heart--that a community manager must be a 'good or great communicator.'

Having just hired for a supporting position on my team, I want to articulate the absolute imperative that community managers have a gift for psychology/empathy, and really above all else, that they know how to *write*. I'm talking sharp, clear writing with an ability to truly engage through internalizing community issues and addressing them directly, often requiring dramatic shifts in voice and tone across platforms, communities and topics.

We traffic in letters, a medium notoriously stubborn to nuance in any format, never mind in 140 characters or less! Representing a global brand 'informally' in a way that's authentic, but remains professional and drives success metrics, is a subtle art.

Community managers are part Mark Twain, part Dr. Drew, part Paris Hilton--they're not just communicators, they're receptive, social writers.
