Use a Spoon to ‘Wash’ Them.

Why reach for anything at all? You've already got a stainless steel object in your hands... I just carefully rub the fingers on my left hand that touched the garlic on the side of the stainless steel knife which is in my right hand. I then go about the rest of the biz of cooking dinner, wash my hands when I'm all done and I've never noticed any lingering garlic odor.

Re: I Don’t Golf. But I Love These Surprisingly Stylish Golf Shorts.

Not sure why this is a Wirecutter article. This is effectively just a rant about why a guy loves a particular pair of shorts so much... which he says are "surprisingly stylish", and this has been determined by said guy who generally resists wearing shorts, so it would seem to me he's generally unqualified to determine what makes a stylish short. And from the photos these shorts appear un-flattering and of a very low quality level. They look nothing like cotton, either his photos or on the Amazon web page. So again, not sure why this qualifies as a recommendation from Wirecutter.

Re: New South Portland business bets you’ll want a refill

I'm not sure what the author's point is or why it's necessary she provide a cost comparison of products at Amazon, Wal Mart and CVS versus this local business. The whole point is to avoid unnecessary packaging and the carbon footprint involved in shipping things from Amazon. If you're going to offer a cost comparison perhaps show the real long term cost of shopping in this local manner versus shopping at the big box stores, and what the long term cost/savings to the environment are, which is the whole point of this business. The short little comparison you offer is completely misleading.

Re: U.S. median age has risen by a year, Maine’s has jumped more than 2 years

Aging and few people moving in are part of the problem? Really? That would be contradictory to the Press Herald article from October which read:

Federal figures show more people are migrating to Maine than leaving the state thanks in part to individuals between the ages of 25 and 34. The Maine Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission on Friday cited Census figures showing that Maine saw 6,827 more people moving to the aging state than leaving last year. Of those individual, about 4,200 individuals – or over 60 percent– were between the age of 25 and 34. Thirteen out of Maine’s 16 counties saw positive net migration. Meanwhile, over 1,400 minors and young people between the ages of 20 and 24 moved out of Maine. Maine’s foreign-born population dropped from 3.8 to 3.4 percent between 2016 and 2017.

Re: New abstract mural adds a dash of color to Portland’s historic Old Port

Like.

Re: Office building proposed in Portland’s India Street neighborhood

Looks to scale to me. It's so disjointed. His last comment on the score at the end of the article is that it's 42-42. The whole excitement of this historic game that went into double overtime, and he doesn't think it's important to give us any detail of how the tie was actually broke (lay-up? free throw? jump shot from way downtown? alley-oop?) to get to 49 and win the game. Just really odd.

Re: Boys’ basketball: Caribou wins first title in 50 years, in double overtime

Is this the worst sport story ever written or am I totally confused? It's almost written in reverse, and I don't see anywhere where it's stated where the 47-47 tie was actually broken. Just several mentions of shots missed in 2 overtimes. What was the play that broke the tie and who scored that winning basket?

Re: Nine Maine chefs and restaurants named semi-finalists for James Beard Awards

Cong Tu Bot is great food but there's nothing cozy about it, which is why I only do takeout now. Their HVAC situation is ridiculous. Their interior is freezing cold in the winter and hot as hell in the summer. I can't imagine why they haven't remedied that after a year. C'mon Cong Tu Bot - make it right already... You're missing out on my additional food and drink revenue. And frankly, it's not really cozy in the traditional sense - just an open space with a bunch of hard surfaces. But maybe I'm mis-remembering as it's been so long since I've eaten a meal in house. Love the B5 Cabbage Salad though - it's the best!!!!!

Re: Maine’s minimum wage to go up to $11 on Jan. 1

Exactly. They earned a "living" wage. A wage you could actually support a family on, and buy a house. Now you can't support yourself on a "minimum" wage. Adjusted for inflation, 2018 dollars are worth roughly 10 times what they were in 1950. In other words, workers on minimum wage are being paid about a tenth of what they were several decades ago. $11/hr today should be over $100 today. I'm not suggesting minimum wage should be $110, but maybe it could be $20?????... Two working adults todfay can't even buy a house, and can barely keep a roof over their heads. Does that seem adequate to you?

Re: Maine’s minimum wage to go up to $11 on Jan. 1

Totally agree. The next 2 visits disappointed. We just didn't have the experience on the subsequent visits that you described. Okay dishes (some hits and misses), okay flavor, burgers that appeared to be precooked with barely melted cheese. Just an odd vibe that the food wasn't consistently being prepared with a high level of attention - almost like being done with what they could get away with... I'm sure that wasn't their actual approach but that was the perception. Definitely not top of the list. Izakaya Minato would be at the top of my list however.

Re: Bid to outlaw drivers’ use of hand-held devices has few opponents

Distracted driving is distracted driving, whether it's a handheld phone, fiddling with the radio or glancing at a newspaper while in traffic. I don't have a problem with this law, but isn't it already all wrapped up in being able to be ticketed for distracted driving in general? And if this is made a law, are the police themselves going to be held to it? Because I see them committing this offense as well.

Re: It’s Worth The Trip: Timber Point is a true taste of Maine’s coach

The tide comes in deceivingly fast, so you're best to visit the island in the 4 hours that are the 2 hours before and after low tide.
