Dude, did you miss the part about the road being profitable?

"In June, for example, the road generated $1.99 million in revenue against $1.16 million in operating expenses"

They also mention that it already serves 25,000 trips a day and is adding 400 customers a month.

The issue is that the parent company has lots of debt. There's nothing wrong with buying the road itself. This economy is an excellent time to make investments. Unless you want to wait for prices to rise and then buy stuff.

The big problem isn't who pays the contributions, the issue is that they are defined benefits upon retirement. Give them (new hires from here on) a 401k and call it a day. It is the standard in the industry so what is the problem?

Did you actually read the spreadsheets that are posted in that link?

For San Diego, they show monthly and yearly increases both adjusted and non-adjusted. What is your point exactly?

You've got it wrong.

Rig was built by Hyundai.
Rig was owned by TransOcean.
Rig was mainly staffed by TransOcean.
Concrete work was done by Halliburton.
Blowout preventer manufactured by Cameron.

It was working under contract for BP, on a field which BP leases. To top it off BP clearly said they will pay for the cleanup costs.

But details are boring, lets be butt-hurt about big oil and cry instead.
