You are a man after my own heart! I love these figs wrapped in ham, and Edwards is the best. We get it at Bennet's Creek Market. We let them bake an Edwards ham for us each Christmas. Hope you're having a great summer!

Thanks! It was frustrating being without my camera. I had a very good repair and service experience with United Camera (http://www.unitedcamera.com/) if you ever need work done on your kit. The mechanical action is great, and they cleaned some gunk from the sensor that had been bothering me for over a year. Nice to have it back in such good shape.

Spending time behind the viewfinder side of a camera does much the same thing. Perceptions all end up framed, with boundaries and corners, and context neatly cropped away. If there is a locus for one's attention it is a distortion, even if it's rich with detail. I've actually been thinking of making a weekly fast from my digital life - one day each week where I abstain from internet and camera and media and cell phone, but haven't yet gotten up the nerve to try it. I might actually have to amuse myself with books or friends or a walk in the woods.

Thanks for posting this lovely remembrance. My mother passed away almost seven years ago, and I still find myself sometimes reaching for the phone to call her, especially if I just saw a bird that she liked, or for help with a recipe. In a way I hope I never get used to it.

Hi Lisa. This is my lame attempt at satire about the new tumblr pinning feature. Not sure if it's available in the UK, so you might not have seen it yet. For a fee one can "pin" a post to the top of viewers' dashboards. I'm not usually resistant to change, but I find the tumblr pin exceedingly annoying.

I love my eyes, and I take care of them. Some have even said they are pretty! Robin's egg blue.Thanks for your concern!

Hi Jackie! The lure was almost exactly as you described. I have a homemade PVC frame we made for ladder golf. I put a halogen shop lamp under the frame, draped with an old bed sheet. Next time out I'm going to add UV. I worked many years in the entomology department at Virginia Tech, and learned that simple is often best. I've also figured out what I was doing wrong with my camera. I've never used the built in flash in all the years I've had it.

It just doesn't make sense. I don't see how this kind of fishing is at all sustainable, when most of the catch is probably "trash" fish (herring, menhaden) that will be used for fertilizer, not food. I think the economics are all in favor of the sports fishery. The commercial harvest is an anachronism the Bay can do without. Besides, I'm still hoping you get a big flounder.

Hi Les. This was lots of fun. You can only take so many shots of rigging and spars! I've been on enough tall ships that my files are full of them, so I decided to only shoot faces this time out. The sailors were wonderful, I got to have more conversations, and I think the photos turned out well.

Hope you're having a fine season. No more wrecks in the garden, please!
