Man sollte aber wissen, dass der Schutz nicht sehr wirksam ist. Mein 10-jähriger Sohn hat die ganzen Einstellungen umgangen, indem er nach der Anmeldung seines Devices am Router die IP-Adresse manuell geändert hat. Danach greifen die Sicherheitsmaßnahmen für die Session nicht mehr... Besser ist es, die Standardeinstellungen sehr restriktiv zu setzen und dann die Ausnahmen mit mehr Rechten in entsprechenden Profilen zu erlauben.

Unfortunately, you are not correct. There is a difference if you buy "normal" products or downloads. What we call in germany "Widerrufsrecht" allows you to return products within 14 days. This not the same for downloads. You can check MP3 download stores - they also do not offer refund after 14 days.

Also, why didn't you just ask before buying?!? I know that there are several companies offer full refund "no questions asked" for a period of time (and of course that makes testing easy) - but you should have noticed that Akeeba does it different (which is their own good decision)

Die Überlegungen sind OK - allerdings einige Jahre zu spät. Der Buchhandel steht jetzt vor dem gleichen Problem, wie ehemals die Musikindustrie: der Nutzer ist längst weiter, "diktiert" die Bedingungen und ist nicht bereit, Rückschritte hinzunehmen. Mit dem momentanen Gebaren machen sich die Verleger sicher keine Freunde unter den Lesern. Warum ist kein Verlag in der Lage, mit interessanten neuen Ideen voranzuschreiten (Mehrsprachigkeit, ...)? Warum gibt es keine vernünftigen Ideen für den qualifizierten Buchhandel (NFC, ...)? Und last but not least - das unvermeidliche Thema - Preisgestaltung bei Ebooks... Wenn das Medium offensichtlich einen zu vernachlässigenden Wert hat - warum gilt dann die erworbene "Lizenz" zum Lesen eines Werks nicht medienunabhängig?

This is REALLY important. And, dear PLT, if you really implement this, put it into the framework and don't hardcode it for com_content. Make it useable for 3rd-party components too!

... and if you have your basic site in something like git, it is easy to create update packs for your customers sites (but don't forget .gitignore for individual files). With a tool like git-ftp, you can automate the update process.

You are totally right. I never played much games. The main reason for this is, that i need a story and an imagination that catches me. In the 80s, i played most of the Infocom games. The only game after that time i really enjoyed to play was "Myst". For me, it combined great graphics, sound and a good story.

These Infocom adventures were sometimes hard for a non english native speaker (I'm from germany). But it was worth it ;-)

I think the results will be interesting ;-) But often i don't use the features the normal way. Weblinks for example. I nearly never use the frontend. But i often use it to store links and not to "hardcode" them to the content. So - i use weblinks, but not the normal way.

This is a cool example of a virtuemart shop - but by far not the only one. You can do such a lot of cool things with virtuemart. The problem is, that it is free ;-) A lot of people don't want to spend money for a designer and people with knowledge to set up the ecommerce site. But ecommerce is not for beginners and it costs money.

The difference here is, that you don't have to subscribe to download - most commercial extensions can be downloaded after you have payed. It is just a notificationin the backend that the user has a licensed version for commercial sites. That is what the code is for. I like this approach very much. This is still no legitimation for encoding, and maybe the license sales would have been the same without encoding.

I know - and you are right. I just wanted to mention that this is a difficult discussion and it is on the back of someone who does more good things than most others in the Joomla! community. BTW: i'm sure this code would not be there if more people would have used the donate-button...

This is a strange situation. I can really understand why this file is encoded, though it might not be OK for JED-rules. BTW: we are talking about someone who gives it all away for free, supports his extensions and has no JED-rating below 4.5 stars! It might not be correct according to GPL and JED-rules, but this code doesn't hurt anyone and (as far as i know) nobody ever complained. Though it would have been better to show the code to Brian as he asked...

Basically i would say let the database do what the database can do. Every line of code you can save with an intelligent query is a good line of code. Of course there are problems you cannot solve with a query or the query becomes too slow.

Also you should not forget the amount of memory that large resultsets consume.

One of the other advantages of downloading the files to the local machine is, that most antivirus programs also find suspicious php scripts - like backdoors and so on. So, just download and scan the files/archive from time to time. If your site was hacked, you also should do this.

ja_teline III is downloaded nearly 4000 times now. I would send them an invoice for the commercial use of your code. By deleting the copyright, they showed that they need a special license. I think, this could be something you could offer them for $2 per download..

Das muss ein Mißverständnis sein, VM2 ist definitiv als Joomla-Komponente geplant. Es wird lediglich überlegt, das Nooku-Framework zu nutzen, was eine gewisse "Kapselung" oder "Unabhängigkeit" vom Joomla-Framework bedeuten würde.
