But look at the brighter side. They've come a long way from Buzz and Orkut. The quality of content that I see on G+ is better than elsewhere. It's a lot like being on friendfeed, along with the brand value that comes with Google.
Emotional investment, no. You're right on that one.

Well, they have an android app. But what's completely irritating is that you need a premium account to use their desktop app. What's the point then!!

Because the iPhone does just what's supposed to, and it does it well. Android phones on the other hand have to multiple ROMs, homescreens, crapware from manufacturers, crapware from Network providers and handle customizations, widgets and pretty much everything you throw at them and they come from different manufacturers, iOS vs. Android makes sense. Not iPhone vs Android (it's a phone vs an OS.
Create a plain jane Android phone with an iPhone interface, it would match up. But then, that just makes an "iPhoney".

Note: I use an Android based device, a Blackberry & an iPhone. And I like them all for what they do.

That's the worst photoshop job I've ever seen. Even a draft Apple design on plain paper with pencil ought to look better.

I thought I'd drop by at AAS and see what they have to say about symbian now. I kept on holding to the dying platform until very recently when I decided to move on (like many others)
I completely agree with your decision of having not picked up the N97. I made that mistake and that's where it went downhill from. Symbian is living in a closed world with nothing interface to in this connected age. True, if you are geeky enough you can replicate any Android phone's power (but it's just too much work, if you ask me..) It's a lot like trying to get a steam engine to go as fast as a bullet train. I never complained about the N97 like many people did. I still think the hardware was solid (atleast on the outside). And if you were smart enough to reset it every few months, it would definitely work well for another 2 years.
I've had a lot of Nokia phones over the years, but probably there's a time for everything.
The N900 was an awesome phone. But Nokia never did what it could've done with it. To add to the insult, they stopped selling it. Now Windows phone? I guess its too late.
But nevertheless, Symbian is one potent platform, if only it was in the hands of the right people.

And which is why I decided to get out UNR and get back to using just docky with Ubuntu desktop.
But with a bit of optimization, and if Unity were to suck resources a bit less, it might actually work well. It is a step in the right direction, and that is why it is being praised.
For someone using WindowsXP on his netbook, it's sure to be miles ahead in terms of an experience.

I completely agree that the unity still has to "grow up" a lot before it gets to where it wants to be.
"I'd prefer to use Docky as my desktop dock and prefer the way it handles windows/launches, so I logged off and logged back into Ubuntu desktop edition" - This is the last line on my post :)
