The PC and thought police have brought this upon themselves. I do believe it's an unhealthy overreaction to go from PC to purposefully antagonistic for the sake of getting publicity. The pendulum will hopefully find a better balance.

Re: Tucker Carlson: Trump Is Expanding The Republican Party

Trump is not bringing people into the Republican party or selling them on Republican ideals. He is garnering a wide variety of supporters for himself. There is a significant difference. His anti-PC bluster and unhinged displays of testosterone are resonating with an electorate that has grown complacent and weary with the status quo. When Reagan attracted blue dog democrats, they continued to resonate with Republican ideals of smaller government and social conservatism even after Reagan was out of office. With Trump, they aren't being attracted to policy, but rather to style and their interpretation of strength.

Re: Alan Bechtold – Rest In Peace, My Friend.

I remember being on 2 expert panels with him ... I loved his keen insights and quick, sharp wit. He was a class act and a straight shooter in an industry that attracts more than its fair share of hucksters. Both being gentleman of a particular age, I loved exchanging stories with him about our first sales on BBS services ... He had me beat by a couple years. He will be greatly missed and we've all lost one of our bright and shining stars.

Re: Why I Can’t Say Love the Sinner / Hate the Sin Anymore

LOVE the post! The only thing I would add is that I don't believe the Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner condescension is reserved just for gays. In the heavily "churched" world, it's actually used quite frequently to talk about those whose sins fall outside of the "acceptable" ones that we tend to wink at. Those who are outwardly addicted to alcohol or drugs would be an example.

Too many of our congregations are filled with those whose big public confession would be "I've been struggling with envy" or other such "safe" and largely universal sin (read "minor" in their eyes) - yet they would keep hidden the core sins that entangle and enslave them. It is sad for those who they outwardly condescend to and attempt to define entirely by their sin. It is equally sad for them - for that judgement that they have in their hearts keeps them from ever bringing their darkness to light - where our Savior can deliver them from it! (I believe that is what the Bible refers to when it talks about not judging, lest we be judged. I don't believe that is merely referring to the judgement of an Almighty God, but the hell of self-judgement that comes from knowing the brokenness in yourself when you judge the brokenness of another).

Re: Jon Stewart Rails Against Ted Cruz's 21-Hour Stand Against Obamacare | RealClearPolitics

Jon Stewart was incorrect in his "gotcha" comment. Where do they think the money for the additional costs to the businesses comes from? Actions and policies have consequences. These CEOs are making decisions out of spite. They are trying to ensure they have a sustainable and growth-oriented business model. If gas prices rise, shippers and transportation companies have to revisit their logistics, cut routes, etc... to bring the expense back in line with revenues. In the same way, if my cost per employee is increased, then I have to cut hours, freeze hiring, etc... to ensure that I can maintain a viable business model. The level of economic ignorance by many is just plain staggering!

Re: Wolffe: Opposition To Obama Speech Possibly Based On Skin Color | RealClearPolitics

What an idiotic statement. As a conservative, I actually am troubled by the disrespect that is so often shown to Presidents on the opposite side of the political aisle. I didn't like it when it was directed at President Bush and I don't like it when directed at President Obama. Regardless of the man or ideology, the Office which they embody, should ALWAYS be respected.

That having been said, to make this a race thing is absurd. It is a power play on both sides - plain and simple. And, given the President's Office, I would have advised that the Republicans be more deferential on this one - out of respect AND to avoid playing into the narrative of them being obstructionist about everything. This would have been an easy one to "give" on.

Many in the media and on the left REALLY REALLY don't understand that for the vast majority of conservatives who dislike President Obama and his agenda - it IS NOT about the color of his skin, but the perceived content of his character. Many of us yearn for a return to the bedrock principles of the nation and Constitution (without, of course, the clear hypocrisies and double standards that allowed minorities, women, etc.. to be treated as lesser). We see in our current President someone that does not espouse American Exceptionalism, someone who does not understand the growth drivers of our SMALL business (not corporate) sector, someone who seems to be dead set on "leveling the playing field" by fixing the outcomes - not by ensuring fairness of process.... the list goes on.

I very much respect the Office of the President and would never dream of even referring to him as anything other than President Obama. At the same time, I do not share his ideological beliefs or appreciated his condescending attitudes. THAT has nothing to do with the color of his skin ... and I know from numerous discussions with conservatives nationwide ... I am FAR from alone in this!

Re: 4 Keys to Increasing Your Klout Score

Love it Trey! Thanks!
Yes ... Klout scores may tell people what a "big deal" you are. But, as you noted, that doesn't equate into the true influence that can only be gained when one KNOWS you have their best interest at heart! That's the type of influence that creates raving fan type of loyalty and not those who are simply following the "flavor of the month."

Re: 13 Business Books That Will Blow Your Mind

I just read an advanced reader copy of "Defy Gravity" by Rebel Brown. AND SPELLED HER NAME WRONG!

As my dad used to say - "When a mule kicks, consider the source."

Meanwhile ... thanks for the Friday chuckle and the cautionary tale.

Re: Don’t Stick It In Their Mouth – How to ReTweet

Amen!
