If guns don't kill people but people do then let's start doing something about the people. Yet another shooter with a history of mental health problems and legally purchased firearms. And in the same place no less mere 4 years after the last time all the NRA-types decided there's nothing we can do about it. But let's stay the course and do nothing about it until it happens to someone we know.

The country was founded during the age of enlightenment with a spirit of freedom to live as you please. It wasn't until the 1950s when "In God We Trust" was added to our money and "One nation under God" was added to the Pledge. Religious hysteria while throwing away logic and reason is a modern development.

The vote was for expanded background checks before a firearm purchase, not to ban the 2nd Amendment. Currently it's more of a hassle renting a nice vehicle from an airport car rental than it is to go down to a gun store and buy a handgun. Every one of these latest gun massacres were preventable if we had actually taken the time to identify them as mentally disturbed. But we're too wrapped up in the fear mongering sponsored by the NRA making everyone think we're here to ban all firearms immediately to even being discussing how to keep people like the well-documented "schizo" and "belligerent" Major Hasan from legally purchasing a handgun and a huge amount of ammunition from his local gun store and shooting up Ft. Hood. Anyone who takes a logical look at the stories of Tuscon, Aurora, Ft. Hood, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Sikh Temple in Wisconsin and comes to the conclusion of throwing up their hands in despair and saying "nope, nothing can be done to prevent this" are being dishonest.

I'm typing this on an iMac I bought in 2007. After 6 years I've upgraded it from Tiger to Lion and I still think I can squeeze another good 3-4 years out of it. Computers have long already reached the point of being able to do daily tasks with ease, I don't see the yearly demand for new hardware like we did back in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Texas has Ft. Hood and that is it.

Norfolk and San Diego are both in blue states. As are Westpoint, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, NORAD, and even SOCOM in Tampa is a blue state. So basically Ft. Hood would have no officers, no air cover, no special forces command, and no way to get to the war (Navy). I suppose the people in Galveston could spare a few rafts. :)
