Too, too sad. I loved her work, keeping track of all the babies and the nests. I downloaded the year-end reports every year. Is there a way to keep her work going? I'm thinking it might be time for another visit to Santa Cruz, maybe not for a hike to the nest, but for a tribute to Cumbrian.

When he was a kid my Dad used to fish that part of the Mississippi with his brother. I don't know if they caught Great Northern Pike, but he really loved them.

Love the squirrel feeders that they have to open to get the nuts. I've been told they are a staple in English gardens.

When we used to visit my grandparents in Saint Charles (about 10 miles west) 60 years ago, it could get down to 25 below at night. I wonder if it still does that. Probably not.

As I asked earlier, have Haku and "Black Tips" ever been seen together? If not, maybe "Black Tips" is Haku.

Question: Have Haku and "Black Tips" ever been seen together? If so, then "Black Tips" exists and is of concern. If not, maybe Haku's tail feathers got darkened by something.

Well, Big Bear is known as a good place for young eagles in their first winter. Also, young tagged eagles used to stick around on the Channel Islands long after fledge. So it's possible. However, both have been identified as females, based on size.
