1) I'd rather not be invested in this discussion (but here I am!), and I like Ms. Gould's work. 2) I've been an asshole to Ms. Gould on the internet in the past. 3) It was an excerpt of a larger work. Perhaps a later chapter will reveal actual regret/insight over the cited incident. 2) She was in college. Which means she was 20 years old. She's entitled to her mistakes of the past and she's allowed to make more, and to learn from them. As we all are.

I should add, I agree re: "hater." I also don't really understand why she feels it necessary to respond to her detractors personally. On one hand it is ballsy. On the other, counterproductive.
