Not saying we native born Americans do not value their own parents I believe most do and would choose to care for them themselves if they had the resources to do so. I do believe that ... for the most part... we native born Americans do not see front line elder care as a viable occupation. If they did why would there be such an ultra-miniscule proportion of native born American CNA's. There are virtually none in most of the nursing homes or health care organizations I've observed. And as I pointed out somewhere earlier, though low, the saleries are not as low as many in retail and/or restaurants, where numerous native born American employees can be found.

The reality EOS, is that many of today’s families... and more of tomorrow’s families... will not be able to manage the care of their elderly parents at hiome, even if they want to, without help. And where’s that help going to come from? More & more folks living well into their 90s, often including years of dementia which implies round-the-clock coverage. The children of these elders are themselves in their 60s/70s with corresponding health issues, plus due to the transient nature of employment in the 21st century, US families are often spread across our vast country... and “ the kids” are still working! (we want to raise the retirement age, right?) The reality is that we’re going to need a supply of people who see care for the elderly ( not just care for their own parents) as a viable occupation. Trump’s “Lets just bring over more people from countries like Norway” declarations are shortsighted, counterproductive and blatantly stupid.

Wrong, BS. First of all we took care of our Dad at home (happily & proudly) over the several years he needed us, but couldn’t have done it without outside help,as it was literally round-the-clock and physically very rigorous. We were fortunate enough to have the resources to have CNAs come in daily to help us. (ALL were from so-called $#!=hole countries, BTW)

The fact is though, many/most families won’t have the resources to take care of their elders at home, and will need to place them in nursing homes. We must ensure that we continue to welcome into this country people who will see elder care as a viable occupation.

That's just it care of the elderly... and children for that matter... should not be compared with the cleaning of toilets. In your world maybe, not in mine.

And when it comes to caring for the elderly, saleries for CNAs, while still far too low, are actually higher than those paid in retail and restaurant jobs which are more easily filled by native born US citizens. Why? Because these so-called $#!^hole people have an upbringing that puts value on eldercare. We native born Americans, for the most part, don't. It's as simple and as complicated as that. And this attribute is the "special skill" they bring that enhances OUR lives. Clearly Trump hasn't considered this.

As our population rapidly ages I believe that we in the US will understand that CNAs are as needed (if not more so) as engineers.

Frankly, PoS, I think it's unrealistic to imagine ex cops, firefighters, town workers workers, etc (the majority of your so-called "courtesy of Obama" disability recipients) careing for the elderly.... and implausible to imagine this particular population being kicked off of disability by republican lawmakers.

A major "skill that's lacking", my friend, is provided by CNAs taking care of our elderly. When was the last time you saw one of those from Norway? Try... NEVER. They all come from Trump's so-called $#!^hole countries, And with our rapidly aging population it would behove us to extend to them a warm welcome.

Guys! Who's going to take care of our elderly if we don't welcome Haitians and other folks from so called $#!^hole countries? Have you though of that? I don't care where in the US you are, nursing homes and homecare companies are staffed almost entirely by this population. We depend on them SO MUCH more than most of us (you gentlemen are perfect examples) realize. Because I guarantee you, no one else is going to clean and dress and watch over your elderly parents (and eventually yourselves) with the patience & grace of the Hatians and other so called $#!^hole people. Your Trump-inspired, formulaic flipancy will soon come back to haunt you.

Actually, I totally understand the divergance, and find it remarkable that in today's Republican party the two can be such comfortable bedfellows. Can only be explained IMHO by shared distain for a common enemy, in this case anything/anyone connected to HRC. And while I suspect that most (all) CT Republicans (and many Democrats) agree on her general loathsomeness, the resulting swing to the extreme right has turned off those Republicans whose values are more moderate.

Moderate Republicans in towns like Glastonbury and Farmington, both of which flipped their town councils after almost two decades of Republican control, have had to acknowledge that their party has moved so far to the right that it no longer reflects their values. CT Republicans, in general, are high-information voters with a fairly consistant set of political principals. The increasingly overt/extreme racial demagoguery, Ayn Randian capitalism and Christian fundamentalism of today's Republican party is not in line with those principals.
