Steve Elliott ~alapoet~ - Firm Dedicates $100 Million Funding Facility To Medical Cannabis</title><link>http://www.tokeofthetown.com/2012/03/firm_dedicates_100_million_funding_facility_to_med.php#comment-465737210</link><description>&lt;p&gt;Valid concerns, but if the company could also offer an opportunity to hedge (financially) against some of the nasty scenarios by investing in them, if they are to grow that big and profitable.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;"Once you get that big, you start being able to control lots of related things, like lobbyists, laws, labor rules, etc."&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;One major obstacle has been effecting change in laws, especially at the federal level.  It sure seems like the people we hire to handle that take their direction from corporations now -- through lobbyists -- not from people like us out here voting and bitching and calling them about how we want things to be.  So if we assume laws need to change to favor cannabis for these evil corporations to thrive, then can't we also assume it is in their best interest to first grease the wheels in the accepted fashion?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Some might argue that's a short-sided view and you might be right.  But we're talking about a sharp 25 year cannabis activist with business experience at the helm here.  Sure, she could get the axe as CEO at any time but here's a chance to support a passionate cannabis activist getting into business, as opposed to a future onslaught of business activists getting into cannabis.  And that only happens if our complaining and voting finally clears a safe path for them somehow over the next 50 years or so.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I've never met Cheryl Shuman but what I've read about her over the years, I appreciate.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Here's what I know.  I can go down the street to one single store and buy a shopping cart full of booze, smokes, and enough drugs to kill an animal weighing several hundred pounds (pretty sure, untested actually).  They'll all kill the shit out of me too but it's not a problem.  I can wheel my cart out of there, right past the officer in his squad car, wave, be polite, with my only worry being that wobbly wheel on my overloaded cart.  Conversely, I can also make my own beer or wine at home if I want to, or roll my own smokes, or use legal herbal remedies and nobody is hovering around wanting to put me in jail for any of those things either.  It's not just coincidence.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The fixes are in.  It comes from the corporations, imho.  And the fallout might not be as apocalyptic as it seems on the surface.  Connoisseurs could also end up with many options beyond the nasty mass produced 'King of Buds' -- who, btw, sells boxes of their product for 15 bucks and still has plenty of cash to keep the wheels well-greased and also to sponsor most major sporting events in this country.&lt;/p&gt;</description><dc:creator xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">TheGardener</dc:creator><pubDate>Thu, 15 Mar 2012 01:07:00 -0000</pubDate></item><item><title>Re: Toke of the Town -
