Apparently you can't even post objective facts without being accused of wokeness. Did that really add anything majorly beneficial to the final image?

Re:
Disney Is Facing Backlash Over Gay Jungle Cruise Character

Why do you keep saying Patrick Stewart is gay? If you're going to have a list of gay people so readily available, you should at least make sure it is accurate.

That said... sometimes when straight people play gay characters they can lack a certain authenticity. Or they fall back onto stereotypes. They don't have the life experience. Plus, there are so many gay actors who struggle to get work. It just seems like a no brainer to cast someone who can really do the part justice and add another layer of representation. Maybe one day in the future it won't matter who plays what. But casting a gay person as a gay character would mean a lot to a lot of people right now. As it stands, there is plenty of straight representation. That is why there are "no complaints."

Re: Make the Most of Your Holiday Photos

I think we right good enuff already.

Re: 6 Types of Photos Every Photographer Should Know How to Make

I concede the title isn't great but I have never seen so many Captain Grumpypants, "it's all about the art", do it in-camera, condescending photo snobs in one place. These are fun things to learn that give you ideas and start you down a creative path. You could try combining two of them. Or figure out ways to do them to make the technique your own. And god forbid you have to touch photoshop to finish an image. Those darn photoshop people aren't true photographers, amirite? You just press one button and it does it for you. In my day we had to poke our photos with a stick in the snow uphill both ways.

Re: The Frogman - Comedy, photoshop, kittens, & corgis

I tried googling your examples but could not find anything. I've decided you are just a bad person. You are lucky that your depressive episode didn't royally screw up your brain chemistry. Many of us aren't that lucky. Once the issue becomes physical as well as mental, it takes a lot more than willpower to pull yourself out of it. People aren't weak because of it. That was one of the ugliest rants I've witnessed.

I am fine with criticism. But I am not okay with people being disrespectful and rude. I am also not okay with you telling people with serious illnesses that they are just weak. That is dangerous and flies in the face of everything known about depression.

I don't know if I should ban you, warn you, or just ask you to leave. I'll just say you are not welcome here anymore.

Re: The Frogman - Comedy, photoshop, kittens, & corgis

Chris is a close friend and the artist who does Corg Life. He uses the titles engineer and science educator. Or... science guy. What I'm saying is that he is more than qualified to talk about evolution and climate change in an educational context. People saying he is "not a real scientist" is a shitty attack on his qualifications. And I personally think he is very much a scientist, whether he believes himself to be or not.

Re: Shows - StarTalk Radio Show by Neil deGrasse Tyson

Also...

http://youtu.be/9g3NpSnpBPM...

Re: Shows - StarTalk Radio Show by Neil deGrasse Tyson

I've seen it said in debates on CNN, FOX News, and yes, even Ken Ham.

http://youtu.be/JxX11c1cSWU...

Re: The Final Word

I understand the fear. It's not right or wrong. It's not something that needs justification. It is something that is there and I personally cannot blame folks for having it.

You didn't answer my questions. Have you had any of those experiences? Have you had any of them dozens of times? Imagine if you did, and then tell me if you think you wouldn't be more cautious. Would you care that fearing men has some negative societal impact or would you just want to stay safe?

And to be fair, I didn't make the "little picture." That was a snippet from a longer post. I didn't care for it being spread without the context, but it's hard to stop that kind of thing.

I was talking about how after the shootings my friends were scared of merely saying no to someone. How a simple rejection could be a death sentence. You probably still think it's an awful analogy and I agree we probably aren't going to see eye to eye on this, but I did my best to clarify why I feel the way I do.

Re: The Final Word

I'm getting it fine. I just can't agree. You are trying to apply pure logic to something that involves emotion and human nature. Have you ever been catcalled? Have you ever been groped in a club? Have you ever been sexually harassed in your workplace? Have you ever rejected someone and then they persist to the point where it is frightening? My friends have dozens of these stories. All I can do is take their word that these things scare them.

I'm not handing out tools for fear and hate. The fear is already present. These behaviors scare folks and I have a hard time blaming them for any paranoia. All I was trying to do is explain why the fear is present. I was not telling people to start fearing men, because that is already the case.

It is my belief that these male behaviors are caused by a sense of entitlement in our culture. If we can teach each other to stop this nonsense, that would be a tool to eliminate this already present fear.

Re: The Final Word

The analogy was not meant to be as complicated as you are making it. By no means is it advocating treating anyone badly. It is merely an explanation of why some women feel the need to be cautious of men until trust and respect is gained.

When people mistrust minorities like blacks or muslims, that can lead to harassment, unwarranted searches, bullying, beatings. That is why the analogy cannot be applied to marginalized groups. It can actually cause harm.

But women fearing men. Trans folks fearing cis folks. Blacks fearing whites. These are acts of self preservation. You don't know which strangers to trust, so you are cautious of everyone just in case. And even then, you can still be in serious danger. Even if you are just getting some skittles.

I'm not really sure what harmful repercussions you think will befall men if women are not immediately trusting of them. It's not like I said they should just stab any dude they think is creepy. It just means they are more careful in situations where men enter their personal space. An example might be that they say they are going to the bathroom and actually go to their car and leave the establishment.

This isn't some ideal that I created all by myself. This is what my female friends tell me. They can't help but be afraid. They get harassed, catcalled, groped, and oftentimes men approach them and will not accept rejection. It's scary for them. So they don't take any chances.

If you think that is unreasonable, I don't know what to tell you. But I certainly don't think it is anything like what you described.
