I wasn't saying bullying would no longer exist; I was taking a jab at the MPAA for being bullies and saying that if people stopped turning a blind eye to bullying it -- the MPAA -- could no longer exist (because they're bullies).

-j.

Re: This x That - The Daily What

http://www.youtube.com/watc...
-j.

Re: This x That - The Daily What

Sexlexia happened.

-j.

Re: This x That - The Daily What

Good catch. David Englin that an invasive, transvaginal probe was required, Republicans in the state House went out of their way to ensure that it was *not* removed from the bill.

An amendment proposed by Englin that would have required written consent from female patients prior to a transvaginal probe was overwhelming rejected by the House.

http://www.washingtonpost.c...

The Republicans didn't insert "bookmark language" into the bill so they could go back later and "clarify" it. They didn't care then, and they didn't care after that "particular bit of information" was brought to their attention. It wasn't until SNL and The Daily Show made a big stink about the whole thing that Gov. McDonnell was compelled to write a letter to the assembly asking that it ensure women would not be required to undergo an invasive medical procedure against their will.

Bottom line is, all of the above is really beside the point. Whether or not they intentionally sought to require a transvaginal ultrasound is not the issue here. The issue is that politicians -- Republicans or Democrats -- really have no place telling private citizens what they can and can't do with their own body. For a lawmaker to require *any* medical procedure of women, transvaginal or otherwise, is simply unacceptable.

If this whole thing was about the government trying to inconvenience men by making an unnecessary medical procedure mandatory, we wouldn't even be having this conversation because that would never happen in a million years.

-j.

Re: How A Bill Becomes A Law of the Day: - The Daily What

I don't know if you're trolling or you just don't care or what, but the reason this bill was referred to as the "transvaginal ultrasound bill" by everyone, including Virginia's Republican governor, is because it states -- in the version you keep linking to -- that an ultrasound image "shall be made pursuant to standard medical practice in the community."

While you're probably used to seeing the "Hollywood"-type ultrasound images with the well-defined fetus that's waving back at its mama, most, if not all, early first-term ultrasounds require a transvaginal probe because an abdominal ultrasound is not sensitive enough to pick up anything but fuzz. This is what is meant by "pursuant to standard medical practice in the community."

So, while you are technically correct that it doesn't *actually* say anything about requiring a transvaginal ultrasound, since most abortions take place early on in the pregnancy, it really does.-j.

Re: Home Movie of the Day - The Daily What

Three brothers, no sisters.
