I think Whan has something big up his sleeve in Korea for 2011. With this event moving up to mid-October, there's plenty of room for an expanded Asian swing in the late fall.

Re: X-Blog: Where Have All the Golfers Gone

Steph, I think you could bolster your argument on Tiger's impact by looking to the explosion of golf in Asia. It wasn't just Se Ri Pak's U.S. Women's Open win but also Tiger's emergence that many female stars from Asia cite as their inspiration to aim for the top.

Re: Jamie in the Rough — Ugh! Brittany Lincicome's eagle to beat Cristie Kerr and Kristy McPherson comes most readily to mind.

http://mlyhlss.blogspot.com...

But for Yang to do what he did when he had to in order to beat Tiger...I can't think of a better shot.

Re: Y.E. Beem's win was a bit more impressive b/c he held off a charging Tiger. But Yang's is definitely more significant.

Re: Another One Bites the Dust

I disagree with Dave. Women's golf is huge in Asia. Until Ryo Ishikawa came along, the JLPGA regularly got better ratings and more media attention than the JGTO all decade. The LPGA makes more from its Korean and Japanese TV deals than it does from Golf Channel. What hit Hainan is the same thing that hit Hawaii--a dip in tourism, first due to oil prices and then to the financial crisis. They'll be back (especially if Sony decides to jump back into the LPGA--they sponsor both Momoko Ueda and Michelle Wie--in Hawaii). But I agree that it'll take a Chinese golfer (not Taiwanese) to really bring the sport to China. Shanshan Feng is having a little bit of a sophomore jinx, Na Zhang is still hurt and has been passed by Li-Ying Ye on the JLPGA, but I don't know of any other Chinese golfers who are ready for prime time just yet.

There's nothing stopping the LPGA from wooing American sponsors and trying to add more events in the U.S. while they build in a spring and fall Asian swing. It's not an either-or proposition.

Re: "Don't Have Sex With the Caddies"

Funny stuff, Paige. I just ranked your rookie class. How closely do you all pay attention to how your fellow '07ers are doing (if at all)?

http://mlyhlss.blogspot.com...

Re: Wei Under Par, Photo of the Day: President and CEO of the Danone...

I think that might be the most awkward thing any tournament demands of its winners ever. How much you want to bet those guys started the tournament just so they could do that every year?

Re: Anna Rawson's Five-Step Plan

Wow, thanks, Stephanie. I really thought Anna was turning it around when she played so solidly in Q-School last year, but she started making big numbers again down under and can't seem to break the habit. If she finishes top 80, I'd be really surprised, but all it takes is one very good week or a few good ones to do it. It would be most awesome if she, Jeehae Lee, and Jeanne Cho-Hunicke picked up their games this fall!
