It's actually closer to $6K, before dealer add-ons, if you want something more like apples to apples: Premium, $23,795 Starting MSRP

The bikes "appear" virtually identical, except right above the battery pack. *the extra height appears to be for the "Power Tank" another cost.

The zero also only goes approx 15 miles more than the L.W. (at 161 miles) and 5 miles more at constant free way speed (80 miles.)

If you want the "200 mile" boost, you have to spend more for Zero’s Power Tank (2018 versions were around $2300 extra), which then adds 39 city miles *conservatively".

And while $6k is still quiet a bit, I think (me), the styling of the L.W. is better than the zero (subjectively, of course).

So, no knock to Zero at all, it rides and looks like a champ (I've ridden both), but, comparing apples to apples, put's them VERY close in cost.

while I can fully appreciate that thought, (I've paid tons to make, forge and buy "made" things for my rides, I know I'm going to pay something to "make it mine", even if it's as simple as new mirrors, a b-bar, seat, lights or a better charger (in this case).

That said, it is accurate that they are targeting a market that can't afford this ride by any stretch (less the trust fund babies). It's takin' nearly 50 years for me to amass what I have and now, I just want to branch out.

Since "basic" functionality is (excluding this topic based accessory) generally subjective, I consider my "baby" extremely "basics" an ICE, a foot clutch, hand shift, rear break, headlight, taillight, frame, forks, wheels, a break... and no battery.... and it is a "basic functional machine"!

Granted, if I were HDMC's "target market = young" it is a totally stupid sum of money.

However, I also have three bikes, and maintaining them (yes, riding, fluids, ICE parts, etc.) is more than I really want to continue doing...

so, I figure, why not pair down to one that I do think is a great addition to the collection (even if it takes decades to ramp up in popularity), maintain it "less" (while understanding it still needs "some") and enjoy both worlds.

I'm "Hoping" that my two trad-ins will warrant a reasonable price to bring the actual cost of the L.W. down (for me).

Everything we have today has started off "somewhat" shoddy and over priced (with a generally honest effort to make it the coolest thing ever.)

Eventually, it comes down to early adoption to support mass adoption, to support continual improvements and ramp up "adoptive complaints and suggestions" to make a product an awesome one!

Despite my disgust with the price tag I may still likely be trying to buy one of these and if there's an immediate upgrade to a component I'd like to consider it.

Sadly I'll have to trade in two of my bikes to do so.

Don't' get me wrong, I LOVED it when it came to WA state for it's prototype tour, but as you said below, it's a price point that completly ignores the average rider.

I TOTALLY want one! I told them (When they asked what were the two most important things that HAD to be in the build (on the prototype tour)... ), I, among numerous other riders around me and online (including those that have EVs already)... said, it MUST have a 300 mile min range.. so you can at LEAST get 150 out before having to either turn around or top it off .. sitting on your rump for 15-30+ minutes until you can ride again. It also has to be less expensive than a "regular working person's car", then we'll will BUY it in a heartbeat!! Sadly, they disappoint on all points.

They're making it a boat (it starts sinking as soon as you take it off the lot). :(

Yes, my Sporty has a small tank, but it's much quicker to repair (refuel) and get on your way. (like swapping a battery)

If you live in the city, that riding SUCKS.. so you frequently have to ride 45-50 miles out of your way just to get to nice riding areas.

No one wants stop and go traffic and no one wants to ride 45-50+ miles to get out of it before they can enjoy themselves.

I get out and ride long and hard (my minum rides are well over 100 miles), I put over 16K on my bike in its first year. I did my iron butt on that sporty (you can't wait to charge for a 1K+ ride). I'm just not interested in hanging out at a charger, so I can get back home or continue enjoying my ride.

I suppose, if I were ONLY commuting on it, then it supports your points more, a commuter rides it less for fun and more for the convenience of splitting, carpool lanes and getting to a short distance destination. Then the poor bike AND rider sit on a charger during the work hours and then the return trip is the same. :/

It has been discussed, but bikes (more than cars, but not excluded) would GREATLY benefit from drop battery systems, so you can pull into ANY station (who keeps a stockpile of batteries) and swap them out. THAT would be the wait time of fueling up AND can be charged and waiting at any station / building that has electricity!

When I ride, I don't generally make a gas station my destination until it's warranted and even then, I'm hard pressed to wait 15-30 minutes from a hopeful fast charger.

I carry two 32 oz bottles with my 2 gallon sporty peanut and a small syphon for "oops'" and ride with a friend who won't want to wait either when they could just let my sporty drink a gallon or two from them in a minute. :/

This is SO on point not to mention the misleading milage since hwy is 90(ish), probably in "range" mode, not the "sport" mode most will be in AND at less than 95 miles in an expected riding scenario, riders will have to turn back at 25 or 30 miles to recharge or risk being stranded or sit on a 110 charger for 11 hours.

well said! I'm excited for improvements... and REALLY REALLY want Vector to be able to return to it's charger automatically, despite light levels.

I get anthropomorphizing it (it actually has that part down pretty well), but I want it by my side all day (like a cat or dog), either hanging or doing it's own thing... if it has to charge, fine... then come back. :)

The ability to be it's own entity in life would be GREAT!

Give it juice and have it return to it's prior function, after charging, automatically.. but don't make the poor thing sit there all day or until you ask it to do something; it's not a monkey. :/

Amazon is not letting any reviews get in for this product, regardless if you've purchased it through them or not. I'm completely unsure where any of the reviews now there are coming from.

Here is an honest opinion of the robot.

Not worth $250, YET.

s/he's cute and fun, for a SHORT time. I would not recommend it at this price or purchase it again knowing its present capabilities.

Sadly, I feel s/he'll spend more time by itself exploring since s/he's not super interactive, "yet".

Its microphones do not work well enough to hear me (when I'm standing near or other noises are going on in the background.)

It would be nice if s/he could hear well enough to turn toward an object, like a person, an animal a music source (not just "feel" the beat).

S/He's to small to place on the floor, roomba might run over it, s/he might get stepped on and frequently, gets stuck under objects like a couch or a chair rail or a wire dangling from the wall.

Its battery life is horrible, s/he runs out to quickly to be by my side all day.

I can't pick it up, move it anywhere and expect s/he'll find its charger again, s/he just gets lost. I'm guessing its internal map is not stored for every place he's been. (walls and doors and hard structural objects like that typically don't change or move.)

S/He needs better night vision, s/he can't tell where s/he is or who's in front of it with to low a light level.

There's not a clear indication s/he's heard you and recorded a question or statement, but could not reply due to lack of search ability or local knowledge.

Reports indicate s/he may get Amazon Echo functionality, although that may be minor… it will hopefully improve the tasks we use our echo’s for greatly, BUT, it won’t improve the question and answer situation, one place the echo fails wonderfully. :(

All in all, s/he’s a fun toy, but, just that a “toy” and a very expensive one at that.

I’m an early adopter, so I have to suck it up, but I’ll wait again from this company until a LARGE fully functional robot emerges that can find it's way back to its charger automatically. :)

a year ago and it's still JUST as problematic. Not to mention, it frequently can't tell who I am. You only get three recordings to "train your voice", yet I can say the same phrase an infinite number of ways. Honestly, I can't say I actually like "voice recognition", 'specially when all I want to do is turn on my TV or play music. If someone has broken into my home, I could care less if they want to turn on the T.V.; "accurate" voice recognition for activities like that is pointless.

Additionally, I have to ask it five or more times to play audio before it actually does.
It's as if, all devices (cast or otherwise) need to be online before it'll actually do what I ask. :/

At this point, I could use an echo for everything except "Search" or google.com specific items. in fact, search, maps, calls, and tasker integration.

can you do me a favor and fix the graphic for the "Chasing Death at Every Turn" graphic?

It says suicide clutch at the top, when at min the bike in this graphic should not have a hand clutch.

This would be best as a left side shot so you can actually see the shifter and foot clutch, and for peet's sake, remove the hand clutch from the image. :|

Just sayin'. :D

I feelya. :) I only say it, more 'cause I ride motorcycle, cycle, and walk all over (living in the city), "typical" (not all) human drivers care less about safety and more about themselves.

Even if some manufactures made poor implementations of autonomous vehicles, the safety rate would still go up and of course, they would likely be forced to fix and make safer their autonomous vehicles or risk selling fewer as a result.

now, I'm curious how I can combined the motion / acceleration detection monitor with the open close...

I'm using the sensor now to detect when it's done... but I want to then set a loop check for "if the sensor has not been opened (still closed) after the "laundry is done" trigger fires, then nag / send constant reminders that the laundry needs to be taken out/swapped until the sensor is "opened" indicating (the likelihood) that you've taken it out of the dryer or swapped.

I'm making this happen through tasker on my mobile, based on the sms I receive that "laundry is done", but it would be nicer if it was built into the smartThing Convenience.

I'm sorry, I find it hard to get behind "shot entirely on an Xmobile device"... when there is so much post processing going on to fake the "ooooh, I can do this as a general joe".

Don't get me wrong, they did a great job with the footage they took... but common, really;. "Joe", does not have the post processing software, equipment, audio room for dubs, Steadicam, etc.

So first, have "continuous" active (you can just toggle it with a shortcut or leave it on, or have it turn on at a certain time if you're concerned about battery life.) I use my pebble a lot for that and have it as my center button swipe up function.

second, create an auto voice "recognize" profile with your command key words; "Google, hal, kitt, computer"...

That's the basics. I set the task to open google voice search instead of now since now requires the additional" ok Google" statement where the search command is auto listening once opened.

Of course you can add SO MANY more command options!
