After inaugurating MTV, having Eddie Van Halen in the "Beat It" video was one of those great musical moves that crossed racial boundaries, like Run DMC rapping with Aerosmith.

BUT lest forget "Black or White," ---- after all that goody-good singing in the video, he flashes into black rage mode, where he smashes up a car with a crowbar and morphes into a black panther.
He knew he was lucky to be a fabulously wealthy African-American in the '80s.
He caught a lot of heat for that ending to the video but his videos really were groundbreaking.

MTV should take this as a sign to respect its roots.
