The extra special infected in L4D2 are too good to give up. Plus, they added all the first game's maps to the second one, so setting is a non-issue.

I want to write a response that explains that was a dumb random "I wish the world was this simple" comment and not an actual desired course of action, and then research and actually debate the finer points of the situation, but I can't bring myself to invest all that time for a comment on a jrock blog.

Yes, I know that it'd be ethically "wrong" to do that and that South Korea doesn't have a magic money tree that could support such a sudden growth in size and population. I'm just so over all this conflict in Asia that I wish it'd be that easy to make it go the fuck away.

What I would totally be all for: the international community bearing down on North Korea, seizing the country, dismantling its piss-poor excuse of a "government", and place the country under the control of South Korea to create a reunified Korea. Quality of life would increase so much for the north, and the world be free of having to deal with Kim Jong bullshit.

I'm sure that's probably oversimplifying or neglecting historic/political precedents, but eh, I speak from what I know.

Good writeup, Cliff.

Personally, I feel a little different on the matter. The feeling I got was more along the lines of exploring territory I don't care for; their older songs don't need to be reinterpreted in their current style because of that division that you mentioned at the beginning of your piece.

It felt less like a nod to my old Deg-fanboy self in the mid 2000's, and more like a a grab bag of old favorites that don't bring anything noteworthy to the table.

But, that's just me. If my tastes hadn't diverged the way they have over the past few years, I probably would been in complete agreement with you.

Not amazing, more like decent/good D'espierrotsRay action - half of the album sounds like D'espairsRay with Kirito on vocals, the other half sounds like Pierrot right before they broke up.

It's not going to make me fall in love with the band or anything, but I didn't hate it and actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

And if I'm completely honest, I only stumbled upon it because I found myself wondering "Is Angelo still around? Maybe they've gotten better..."

As I was going through my RSS feeds and saw that image, I legitimately lol'd. *golf-clap* Take a bow, Go.

Anywho, I'm thinking:

1: As the eponymous album track, they've got to try to make it sound good. I'm hoping it'll follow up on the pace that Rinkaku has set, where there's more of essence of the "old" Dir en grey to balance out the annoying try-hard deathcore shit they've been pumping out lately.

2: Karma - We know what's going to happen here. Lots of growling, but I don't expect this one to really disappoint anyone. The original version of this song was cool back when their song catalog wasn't nearly as developed as it is today, but by today's standards sounds way too dated and way too indie. Don't think anyone will end up loving it, but I can see a lot of people (myself included) surprised to find themselves really liking it.

3: Kasumi - This (and a few of the other tracks) is where we'll be rewarded with (mini) album high points. I remember seeing them live in Japan in '07, and having my nips blasted right off when they busted out an all-acoustic mini-set of 304 blah-blah-whatever, Mushi, and Undecided. It was really good stuff. I think they'll do something we can all appreciate. That, or give us a damn good reason to quit on them altogether.

4: Karasu - GRAW RAR RAR CRASH-KLANG-POW URRGGHHHH. Yeah, 'tevs.

5: Bottom of the Death Valley - Had this one thrown at me by surprise at one of their shows in Los Angeles, and it was fantastic. There's no way they can fuck this up. No way.

...right?

6: Unknown.Despair.Lost - I hope that, just like they cookie-cut Luna Sea's "G." for the original version, they do the same thing as before and take a page of the Luna Sea playbook. LS's "Rouge" interpreted by Dir en grey could be interesting. But I'm not going to kid myself - this is another opportunity to try to drop that tuning where no man has tuned before and bore us all to shit, and I think they've getting really bad at saying "no" to those.

7: The Final - One of the strongest contenders for "best song" award, they can't fuck this one up either. I have a hard time imagining how they could.

8: Macabre - Same as above.

9 & 10 : If they go all angry on the other versions, maybe these will be the ones that deliver. They've got TWO shots for both of these songs. At least one of each song has to end up being something good.

Conclusion: We don't trust Dir en grey for shit these days. I know I personally haven't assumed a new release was going to be good since...2007.

Definitely agree. The convenience of iCloud, iMessage, and the iOSX ecosystem are only going to stave off the lure of all of the awesome Android handsets out there for so long. It wasn't that big of a deal when jailbreaks came out fairly quickly, but now that there's no way to get around Apple's silly limitations, I am seriously considering getting an iPod touch and a top-grade Android handset that I can just tether the iPod to. I'll get to keep my constant access to iMessage without having to feel like I'm settling for a less capable phone.

Used to be that Apple had the strongest smartphone because of the advantages it had over the competition in regard to both hardware & software design/integration. Now, everyone out there is making really sexy and well designed hardware, and Google is definitely starting to hand Apple its ass in UI design & software quality; the only stock Apple app I use is the App Store.

Yeah, I've had similar buying experiences with all Japanese vendors I've tried over the years. As I sat down to open the box, I said aloud to myself "Japan, I love receiving stuff from you". They certainly know their packaging.

I don't really care for superheroes in general myself, I always have been a big fan of the X-Men & Batman. I found the Avengers movie to be way more enjoyable than I thought it would be, since I read a bunch of Avengers comics back in my childhood and never really liked them much. Captain America...I know I watched that movie, but I don't remember anything about it.
