yet. :)
if you wanna speak strictly in terms of affordability you have chosen an argument that will definately show that it isn't a chicken/egg issue.
there are always doctors who will treat a person free of charge. in fact i will "bet" that most doctors have patients that are unable to pay.

but show me a insurance company, including medicare, who will issue an insurance policy free of charge.

one more thing i'll say. this discuission was the inspiration for my latest post. so, again i want to thank you for the inspiration.

Re: Can't a for health reform and along with it affordable health care."

i agree but first we must agree that we are talking about "health care" costs. in this discussion we'd be talking about the high costs of doctor bills etc. that we would be paying out of our pocket.

the argument now is over "health care insurance" costs. in this discussion we'd be discussing the costs of getting someone else (insurance companies) to pay for those doctor bills etc.

these are two separate issues. they are not one and the same issue. to equate the two is misleading and, in my opinion, a dishonest argument on the part of the politicians.

Wed, you"

freedom of choice is the exercising of your free will. and that is the meaning behind the god-given rights of liberty and the pursuit of happiness. and in the recognition of this, we know that our good choices benefit us while we must suffer the consequences of our bad choices.

but they must be choices made by you and me, not forced upon us by government mandates. free will is, in my opinion, the most valuable gift that God has granted to mankind and the individual. and myself, i don't appreciate the government depriving me of the right to exercise that gift. i accept the consequences of my bad choices in life but i do not like accepting the consequences for the bad choices others make.

and i think i made my point with this issue. i was just pointing out some very important flaws in the senate bill. we'll see what happens when the house and senate come together and come up with a bill together now. we'll probably "fight" over that one too. lol.

but just remember one thing, i enjoy these debates with you.

as for medicare and the public option, you forgot two options. there is always the private option as well as the personal option.

Wed, 30 Dec 2009 03:03:34 is a big difference between medicare and private insurance, my sweet.
the government can consentually and voluntarily enter into contracts. and your tax dollars, paid involuntarily, are used to make payment on these contracts.

medicare is a health program where the government has entered into a contract with the medical profession. it is not a contract between you and government thus they can tax you to pay the medical profession.

a private insurance policy declares a contract entered into consentually and voluntarily between the policy holder and insurance company.

contracts, by law, are only valid if entered into consentually and voluntarily. so, you see, while the two may appear to be alike there is a big difference in the contracting parties. and as you see both parties enter into each contract above consentually and voluntarily as it should happen.

one last thing to think about as a Christian woman. insurance companies are like the gambling houses in vegas. they both use the same principle to make a profit, odds of probility of occurance. that premium that you pay to the insurance company is your bet. you are betting that one of the illness described in that policy will occur to you. the insurance company is betting that it won't.
do you like the idea of government forcing you to gamble your hard earned dollar away or do you believe that should be yours and my choice?

<dc:creator agree with is the government forcing us to buy insurance for it. that is not the essense of the right to liberty and pursuit of happiness. that should be "our choice" if health care is a personal right as the left contends. when the government enacts laws they are declaring that it is the "right" of government to make that choice not the individual.

we consent to paying taxes, me lovely, but voluntarily, no. that why we needed a second constitution, because those responsible for funding the federal government under our first constitution wouldn't pay their "fair" share voluntarily even though they consented to it. there is a big difference between giving consent and voluntary.

and remember taxes are the "only" debt that can result in a prison term if not paid. we pay taxes because we are "forced" to.

as to your daily kos article, regardless of how you read it, it is still unconstitutional. every bill or any section of any bill can only require a majority vote to be repealed or passed.

now, the constitution allows each house to make up their own rules in regards to the process of getting a bill passed or repealed, thus the filibuster would fall under this catagory. but that is not a part of any law written and enacted. there is a difference.

the rules of the senate and the laws they enact are two separate things. you can't make rules of the senate a part of the law of the land. to make rules of either house a part of the bill is to declare that the other house must consent to that rule also since both houses must pass the same bill as written. i'll have to say that daily kos used some clever language to cover up this difference also.

the only time a bill needs a super majority is when the President vetoes a bill. and then it only requires a 2/3 majority to override that veto. the only other thing necessitating a super majority is in the passing of an amendment to the constitution.

Tue, 29 Dec 2009 15:11:21 by forcing everyone to buy insurance and penalizing those that don't. that is a real good plan, my lovely.

then mr. reid put a clause in it that says a certain section cannot be repealed.

besides, i think it will be pretty hard to get the final bill passed when both houses try for a compromised bill.

besides if some legal scholars are right, it will be challenged and found unconstitutional in the form it is in now.

another thing, its going to be awhile before it gets to the President's desk for his signature, probably right close to election time and there are a lot of folks out there that do not like the idea of going socialistic in this country.

<dc:creator don't believe, but you get the idea.
religious intolerence is a form of bigotry, and specifically addressed in the Constitution.
so is poltical intolerence. this is shown by the tolerence we have in this country towards certain political ideas.
we can also cite examples of both bigoted thoughts in the world. The KKK and other white supremists are a couple of the best known examples of it here in this nation. bigotry knows no color or nationality either.
i always like to say " a bigot is one who is so afraid of another man's way of thinking that he will do anything to eliminate that thought because it is superior to his own."

then he smiles as he says, btw, this little post of yours and discussion was an inspiration to me for my latest post on my site called "politics of war and peace".

Re: Mercury Morris: On What Planet Do You Spend Most of Your Time?

he grins, ahhh another disagreement that could be debated between us :) i'd have to be on Mercury's side in this debate over the use of words. there is a difference between the two words of bigotry and racism. they are not synonymous. a person may be bigoted without being a racist but a person cannot be racist without also being seen as being a bigot.
bigotry recognizes any intolerance. racism recognizes a specific intolerance.

Re: What Shall I Tell My Children Who Are Black?

he just grins as he says, who says we cannot agree on things. lol

Re: What Shall I Tell My Children Who Are Black?

i'd have to agree with the both of you on this issue. the only difference being is that change has occured so fast that you and i lived long enough to see and feel the difference. very few generations throughout history can say that. your kids will only be able to read about them. in a way your kids are the lucky ones. in a way you and i are the lucky ones.
