Whoops.

Why are we talking about the DIY NAS: 2017 Edition here? In the future, let's try and stay on topic.

My bad, I meant this as an overall aside, pertaining to both builds; I saw the EconoNAS as somewhat of a child of what the main build is. Sorry. :/

With regards to the frequency discussed in this blog, it was pretty specific with how exactly I plan to to handle the frequency of the EconoNAS builds. It'll probably be every 18-24 months.

If you're hoping for some sort of commitment that can be counted on then I'll have to apologize. This is a hobby that I do for fun when my other priorities allow it.

No worries, I was just asking if there had been any new exciting developments that you had noticed. IIRC, I hadn't seen an update in a while, I may have missed it.

And AMD hasn't released any kind of low-power, integrated Ryzen CPU to compete with the likes of the Avoton/Denverton CPUs or Xeon D CPUs. If you're hoping to see one in an upcoming NAS build--I wouldn't hold your breath.

You're right, totally forgot that the majority of the current Zen chips are closer to the TDP of the new Skylake Xeons than the Broadwell designs (I still don't know my Xeons as well as I should lol). The Zen+Vega chips are pretty low power, and I thought we'd be seeing that trend carry over to the Pinnacle Ridge line. Guess not.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate what you do here!

Re: DIY NAS: EconoNAS 2017 - Brian's Blog

Now that we're 4 months into 2018, what have you come up with on your frequency of NAS builds? 13 months after the main 2017 build, has anything drastic changed, in your opinion?

And what about the thought of using a Ryzen build? I know we're a few days out from the Ryzen 2 Pinnacle Ridge embargo lifts, it will be interesting to see what sort of numbers the new CPUs will offer.

Re: Blog Post Promotion in 6 Easy and Free Steps

Also, bit.ly does get blocked/filtered far more frequently these days than goo.gl due to its common use by spammers.

Re: Technical Analysis Of The Great Rowan Atkinson Death Hoax Of March 18, 2017

... People can't (and shouldn't) just give away images without any protection for both the photographer AND CDBaby.

There's no real description of how these images are going to be used, or for how long. And there's nothing in this post prohibiting CDBaby from using these images in brochures fake album art samples, or anything else that could be considered commercial use.

Chris, I implore you to take this back to Legal and get a super basic disclaimer/terms of use drawn up to put in this article. Something that ensures that covers the following:

- CDBaby will not use these for commercial purposes past the website design (such as ads or similar commercial purposes that fall outside the design of the site), nor for brochures, ads, or anything else of that nature.
- Ensure that verbiage is included to define the length of use, and that the rights of the images are not transferred to any other entity.
- Photographers are not giving up ownership or exclusivity to images
- Photographers will receive full credit as the creator of the images, along with providing the name of the artist in the image
- If images are desired to be used in a commercial manner, CDBaby will contact the photographer (not the artist) for appropriate and fair licensing negotiations (we're reasonable folks).

I think that's a pretty reasonable start, and covers the main points that I would consider important for everyone's protection. This way, everyone knows where they stand, and knows what won't be done, as well as a (small) light at the end of the tunnel if CDBaby for some reason wishes to license an image for commercial use. 'Cause, y'know, landlords don't accept photo credit for rent payments.

Remember, artists and photographers: If we don't look out for our own rights and intellectual property, who will?

Re: 8 Ways to Flatter Women Using One Light

I would've found this much more informative if it was actually geared towards shooting women who require flattering, not just your "usually hot model types". The real value with this is that you can put them all in FP sync to be able to overpower the sun at faster shutter speeds than 1/250th.

All my flashes are non-TTL, so while I'd love to gang them together in this thing once in a while, I can't see spending the money on it and not being able to use it for what it's really meant lol.

That IS some really gorgeous light though. :D

Re: Build 86 – Holiday Hoopla!

Oh god, those ads are INCREDIBLY distracting. I'd probably go back to using discrete clients before having to look at those.

I support Digsby by promoting it to friends, coworkers, etc. I'm not against funding development, I know how this stuff works (I work for a leading software company in its field). But the ads, man... They're ugly. They're irritating. They're highly detrimental to the user experience.

You know what ads I think are incredibly tastefully done? Gmail. Yeah, the rotating ad above your list of emails. I barely notice it. But I notice it when there's a keyword that grabs me. Which is the point--good targeting, right?

I'd pay for a premium Digsby if it had more features. Not even taking ads into consideration. I don't know if I want to pay just to remove the ads, I feel it's bullying to a point. But, if the paid version had no ads and more features, I'm in.

That being said, if the free version had streamlined ads that didn't hog resources and take up WAY too much screen real estate (My work machine is a 15" laptop, and if I'm working out of the office I don't have my nice big display), I'd be much more inclined to leave the ads on.

Sorry though, for now I've got to turn the ads off. I tried. We'll try again next time. :D

Re: Bockbier Girls

Yeah, I was bummed I didn't get to go this year, don't know how that happened! lol..

Re: I Care

Thanks V!

I'm glad I took it when I did, because the next day or two, it was gone.

Re: Multiplex

Had to actually grab the source code and drop the URL for that clip to listen to it haha...

That actually sounds like one of my "goofing off" bass riffs.
