Something Gunn could devise would an Elseworld production of All Star Superman, a straight from the comic adaptation, which would highlight an older Superman in his last days. Cavill would be perfect for that and it could very well be a masterpiece if Gunn made it a passion project.

I've always thought Mencken was a mediocre intellect, but I give him a credit for having a snappy prose style and a penchant for a good line. His zoo remark was one of them, and can be and has been used for years by others smarter and more clever than me to respond to trivial queries. My use of the phrase implies nothing other than I used to read and enjoy Mencken and that I remembered that particular sentence. Your analysis of my intent strains for effect. Not talking about the work Brosnan did in Roman Polanski's 2010 thriller "The Ghost Writer" if we're talking about the actor's decision to pursue roles that distance him from the shadow of James Bond. While Brosnan does not have have the lead role, his performance as a former British Prime Minister who may have been involved in an assination conspiracy is as un-007 as one could wish for. And, this being a film directed by the brilliant and wholly problematic Polanski, the film is a deep well in secrets, innuendo, barely concealed paranoia as a cache of ugly facts involving rich and powerful men approaches exposure to the hard glare of sunlight. Brosnan is especially effective as a stiff-lipped, buttoned-down elitist on the verge of having his world crash on him.

SS didn't connect with audiences? True enough, it garnered a mere 53 percent approval rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but the movie earned 745 million dollars globally against a 175 million budget. That makes for a big, fat smash hit even if it less than a billion bucks, and it's final dollar amount at the end of its theatrical run is even more impressive given that the film didn't show in China. Super hero movies are massively popular in that country, and Suicide Squad likely would have hit the billion dollar mark had it played there. The movie certainly connected with a lot of viewers to get numbers that high. It's funny that its box office receipts don't usually get mentioned when someone wants to imply that the film flopped with audiences. It didn't flop, it was a hit. And I liked it. I am fine with Jared Letto's Joker.
