If advertisers stop being so greedy and actually become more relevant and interesting to consumers, then it will be easier to communicate how advertising funds content. I would add a number 3 here: How can we innovate in this space to create something new and exciting that takes advantage of the mobile environment and doesn't chase the ever decreasing click-thrus of a banner ad.

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: SMS is dead. Long live messaging.

yes and no. SMS still has its place and for me in the last couple of weeks, has been very useful. It works best in a customer service context - in my case, last week, I got useful SMS from easyJet about my flights and bag drop times. They weren't trying to sell me anything. The messages sent were useful and relevant. And they all got through - they weren't reliant on me having paid for a roaming data connection.
I think we will see messaging (voice, text, image) apps grow in the coming months and years. The challenge is to manage it all. I do not want to be managing 4 or 5 messaging apps as well as email, skype, facebook, twitter, SMS, mobile voice... I also see many of my facebook friends rejecting facebook messenger and asking people to contact them via email instead. Unfortunately, we appear to have made communication more complicated!

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: SMS is dead. Lower end Androids and earlier android phones are limited in memory. On my main phone, it's one app in and one app out and I'm not able to use Whatsapp and the like on my tablet as it doesn't have a sim card. SMS has the benefit, still, of working on all phones, and as such, is still useful.

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: 2013 is the year of Glastonbury Mobile

Update: I tried the app. It's huge and only compatible with top-end devices. It's a 15mb download even before I've started selecting my schedule. That causes a phone storage issue on my phone so I had to uninstall it straight away. I think it has been designed for those at home not those at the festival...

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: 2013 is the year of Glastonbury Mobile

oh yeah, I'd forgotten that little gem. I certainly don't want to teach women to take on negative male traits :)
As for quotas - I tend to agree with you as it's a means to an end. It may not be the fairest, but if you're given a reasonable time frame to get on with it, then it should be achievable. I'm not really sure why there is still resistance to this when we know that mixed teams are more successful.

Re: http://technokitten.blogspot.com/2008/08/are-women-invisible.html

Also worth a read about how this very techie conference raised its number of women speakers on the roster
http://adainitiative.org/bl...

Re: http://technokitten.blogspot.com/2008/08/are-women-invisible.html

Four years on and we're still having the same discussion...
https://www.facebook.com/he...

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: Yet another child tracking app is released

This wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that your email address suggests you work for Counterpoint, the company behind DondeEsta?!

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: The road to Mobile World Congress 2012

Just spotted another competition to win 1 of 10 tickets to MWC12 here
http://www.techweekeurope.c... - you just have to sign up to the newsletter to be in with a chance.

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: 2012 is the year when traditional retail starts to hurt

All good comments and food for thought.

Re the 90% figure, that's from Forrester "Forrester estimates that while 90 percent of buying still takes place in stores, more than 40 percent is swayed by the Web." and is quoted in this Business Week article about Target which is also worth a read. http://www.businessweek.com.... Keep 'em coming. It's all good stuff.
Tom, there are some background statistics on the retail sector here http://www.skillsmartretail... which shows you the current scope of it. However, it doesn't show the split between on and off-line. It does show how important it is though to our economy right now.

I'm interested to hear others thoughts on the evolution of town centres becoming more social spaces and less about retail and how that could/should work. And the role technology plays in that.

Re: Orange Glastonav review

Sadly, the app hasn't improved since the first time they did it. I've loved it since 2003 when they first opened for business. I can't imagine ever using voicemail again. If Spinvox disappears, I think I'd just switch voicemail off.

However I'm not so sure about the management. And the way they've handled this one. I'm disappointed in them. So the jury's still out on that one for me. They've got a lot of fires to fight at the moment so I'm willing to give them some time to work it out. Then I'll make a judgement call.

In the meantime, Keep Calm and Carry On.

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: The Tanla Guide to Mobile Marketing and Advertising

Aha, you're quite right.
