How much is this going to cost us? How much more freedom are we going to be asked to give up so another bunch of enlightened fools can feel good about themselves? It is amazing to me the inertia this manmade climate change religion has in light of the fact that so much of its basic scientific premise has been recently discredited. Here is just the latest news article showing this:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/...

Never mind the fact that many creditable scientists disagree with the idea of manmade climate change:
http://epw.senate.gov/publi...

I guess it is easy to claim something is so if you only seek out that information which supports your agenda. Are you saying that, as citizens of these United States, we should actually actively become involved in the governmental processes and seek out candidates and familiarize ourselves with them and their policies and beliefs and actually try to make a reasoned voting decision on whether or not a candidate has this strange "experience" thingy? I mean, President Obama had little to no practical leadership experience and look how well he's done.
Can't we all remain over entertained, ignorant, apathetic, decadent, greedy, and malleable, thereby ensuring the status quo that got us into this socialist utopia mess we are in will go on and on? Oh, I do hope so as I really want my children and their children to be economic slaves to an all powerful central government. I mean, serfdom is cool, right?

Re: Oak Harbor council upholds one-way vote in tumultuous meeting - Whidbey News Times

Other than your snide, dismissive little intro "You obviously aren't looking very hard for answers. . .",
I thank you. Someone finally gave a fairly reasoned answer to my question as to 'why?'.
Some of what you said makes sense. I truly hope you are correct and that the impact is light and the economic returns to local businesses is heavy. I still do not see that the need to supposedly increase a few parking spots justifies expenditures from a tight, strained city budget.

Now to refute this: "As for your "Obamunist recession" (completely ignoring the fact that this has been brewing for far longer than the year he has been in office)"

The Obamunists have spent (blown) more tax payer money by far than any previous administration, ever, getting this country into deeper deficits and debts than ever imagined possible while only exacerbating the unemployment rate. Had the Obamunists really wanted to stimulate the economy rather than just grow the government, they would have forsaken the oft times disproved Keynesian economics model and done WHAT HAS ACTUALLY WORKED!!! for past presidents to get the economy moving again (Harding/Coolidge, JFK, Reagan, W) which is to cut taxes and the size of government and let we the people do what we do best when left alone, thrive! But when you are a Fabian socialist at heart and hell bent on destroying Constitutional Liberty so you can implement your progressive agenda (Communists using evolution not revolution), why would you not want to bankrupt the country into a "brave new world".

"It is a paradoxical truth, that tax rates are too high today, and tax revenues are too low, and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the tax rates". The Supreme Court upheld this terrible practice, thus weakening the Constitution, and thus our Liberty, again.

From Wikipedia:
"Kelo v. City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005)[1] was a case decided by the Supreme Court of the United States involving the use of eminent domain to transfer land from one private owner to another to further economic development. The case arose from the condemnation by New London, Connecticut, of privately owned real property so that it could be used as part of a comprehensive redevelopment plan. The Court held in a 5-4 decision that the general benefits a community enjoyed from economic growth qualified such redevelopment plans as a permissible "public use" under the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment."

Here is legal case:
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.c...

So what is the real extent of downtown Oak Harbors redevelopment plans?

Re: Challengers surface for Dean, Larsen - Whidbey News Times

So have you, or have you not, congratulated the new Senator from Mass. that replaced the 'Leftist of the Senate'. Wow, what a slap in the face to the whole radical left wing agenda. What a wonderful repudiation of Obamunism (Fascism w/o national pride). What a wonderful chance to thwart the progressive secular death panels from implementing their culling process. What a fantastic reprieve from the scam of man-made climate change and it's economic tyranny that would have been carbon cap and tax. What a wonderful foretaste of the delicious populist voter revolution to come in the remainder of 2010 and then again in 2012 when we, the Sons and Daughters of Liberty, reclaim our birthright and reestablish our freedom and send the tyranny that is Obamunism back to the Marxist rock from under which it crawled. Silence is the sound of freedom." Yes, but the further away you are from a noise source, there is a logarithmic decrease in decibels due to attenuation and spreading. So that beautiful example of freedom you see flying nearby is not affecting your eardrum with over 84 decibels of sound energy as the wave front of the sound energy is having to constantly expand to cover more and more surface area. Knowledge sets you free. The US military lets you stay that way.

"Property owners cannot grow certain crops that may attract birds; BTW birds were there before NASWI. Property owners are restricted on what they can build. They may be able to build a single-family residence but no high-density housing or shopping centers. That is not freedom it is economic tyranny." So don't buy or build to close to a military facility. It's so simple. BTW, Obamunism (fascism w/o national pride) is economic tyranny.

"Anyone can google 'low frequency sonar+whales or dolphins' finding overwhelming evidence of harm traced to the military around the globe." Thank you for admitting where you get your information. So, if you type it into an internet search engine and are directed to a website, whatever you find there is truth? Wow, that explains a lot. I actually worked in the field of active sonar and know a lot about it. Once again, attenuation and spreading cause the low frequency active sonar energy to greatly dissipate as it moves away from the source. It is not harming the whales. If you take the sum total of all the research, you are left with very inconclusive findings. Newsflash: whales do grow old and die of natural causes, and sometimes they die from whale diseases. Kneejerk lefties with a cause see the dead whale floating and say to themselves, 'Hmmmmm, we can use this for our cause of freeing mother earth from the evil right wing capitalist Christian hate monger George Bush wannabees'. I will bet more whales have died from being struck by Greenpeace ships than from active sonar. But a Greenpeace scientist with an agenda does not care about empirical evidence, only gathering that data which affirms a preconceived outcome need to support an agenda based on a progressive (Marxist) worldview. So, just like the hoax that is manmade climate change, you can always get some grant-chasing scientist to say what ever you want if you just keep paying them.

"The cause of terrorism is our failure to respect sovereign land and culture. People of the world want to be the masters of their own land. They do not want to be enslaved and exploited. As long as we remain in the Middle East there will be terrorism." You are so wrong on this point. They hate us because we are not Muslims. Convert to Islam, Submit to Islam as a slave, or die. Those are the only choices they have given non-Muslims throughout history. The Muslim nations surrounding Israel would drive Israel into the sea if it were not for their strong military.

"Most Muslims have a strong belief in peace." But it only takes a few hate filled jihadists to ruin your day.

"Ignorance is the five-sided funny farm squandering our treasury and our children's future on wars of choice." But I'll bet your Ok with the Obamunists enslaving our posterity to ever higher tax rates by quadrupling our Federal budget deficit and adding greatly to our national debt (12 Trillion plus now) for their secular humanist progressive socialist tyrannical agenda.

"Ignorance is sending our youth into harms way to be killed and maimed for life over a criminal act." So the UN committed a criminal act?
Our youth volunteer for military duty, sacrificing to keep us free. What have you ever done that was so selfless?

"Injustice not weakness invites evil." Injustice according to who, some malcontent lefties who will perpetrate unimaginable evil upon people like me if they ever gain the total power they seek? I have absolutely no doubt of the horrible atrocities the radical left will lovingly, tolerantly, and peacefully commit upon those who disagree with them if they are ever able to.

Re: Challengers surface for Dean, Larsen - Whidbey News Times

Your BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) makes you spew nonsense. When?
Who was here first, you or NASWI? If you moved here, did you think to checkout whether there was a military base here first?
NASWI is the economic engine of North Whidbey Island and you want to shut it down? During the Obama recession? Why not at least bring in these mystery drones you speak of and base them here?
Now, about these drones you allude to? Are you really implying that UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) are the answer to everything the military has to deal with? By the way, IEDs (improvised explosive devices) is the correct acronym.
Do you realize what type of aircraft NASWI has, and what their missions are? The P-3 is a maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft and the EA-6B is an electronic attack aircraft, neither of which are specifically tasked to locate and destroy IEDs. But there are many types of threats we may have to respond to in the future, so the military has to try to be prepared for each different contingency. UAVs have there place but they are not the end all, be all.
"Just more of the five sided funny farm squandering taxpayer dollars to benefit war profiteers." Really?
