(obviously) but that doesn't make you any less of a designer.

hear me out.

1) yes, some / many people are great at details and they should absolutely focus on their speciality and become a master at that. good for them.

2) for the rest of us, to "declare a specialty" is like fitting a square peg in a round hole (i.e. doesn't work). some of us are "big picture" people and like to fit puzzle pieces together. sure, sometimes we have to outsource or call on the expertise of those whom are good specialists. but with the design / web / technology field changing so fast, lines are becoming more and more blurred between design. and development, and content, and interaction/UX design, and strategy, and messaging... etc etc etc.

sometimes having a wider knowledge will help create a more successful solution... which is what design is all about. and i find with my work, this becomes more and more of a benefit than a hinderance. (and i actually kinda take offense to the "you have no idea what you're doing" comment. because i'm pretty damn good at the services i provide. otherwise i wouldn't be successfully doing this for over 15 years)

so yes, there is absolutely a place for specialists. but there is also a growing place for the generalists. and BOTH can kick ass in providing great design solutions.

Re: Last Call at the Jazz Estate

nooooooooooooooo!!!!!

:(

Re: Turn Your Mac Into Your Largest Bluetooth Headset With Dialogue, Plus A Chance To Win

oooh nice! GOD's table is big enough for every view point to be CIVILLY, and RESPECTFULLY discussed.

we as the body of Christ are as diverse as GOD GODself. let us enter into tough conversations while always recognizing Christ in the other person/people.

Re: First Annual 50/50 This Is Not A Raffle

we're busy ordering the tickets and explanation posters for every congregation within the synod as i type. so yes. sometime soon, each church will be supplied the tickets to sell. thanks for your question :)

Re: Live updates from the 7th Annual Greater Milwaukee Synod Young Adult Mission Trip

i loved watching through your photos and updates! (which even to me feels as clear as mud. welcome to my brain! hah!)

Re: Is Justice Really Served?

i'm sorry you feel so strongly against our viewpoint.. but please, refrain from personal insults. that's just not cool.

Re: Desire, Determination, & Education

you're awesome. that is all. :)

Re: Too far gone?

hah! i love it. i feel like we need some sort of theme song.. and a tagline like "we will not be silenced"... or "we will prevail"... :P

Re: Too far gone?

you're so right. i was just at a panel discussion today where this same issue was talked about a bit. it wasn't so much a "the young adults are all gone" type of discussion, it was more of a "how do we get the young adults more active"... and i think that's a valid question. we're really good at posting things on our facebook walls, but how can we translate that into action. :)

Re: Too far gone?

thanks diakonda! hope you are well. :)

Re: Too far gone?

you know jim, i think you're right. i bet a lot of this is a repeat of history. thanks for chiming in!
