Being whole is not about separating life and work, but about integrating it. Social Media IS real life, it's not a virtual fantasy land. Learning, teaching and understanding this is something that I know the Digital Citizenship Institute promotes. Look forward to this panel transforming minds.

I hope you agree that is what the #cmgrhangouts have been doing for the last 3 years. It's all about sharing what we know with others and letting nobody feel like they are alone, despite many being a department of one. I love this day not for the self promotion. Not for the list of best community managers. And certainly not for the vendors who jump on it as a way to freely promote their products. But I do love it for the conversation that rarely has a chance to happen. Yes. Let's tip our hats to the ones who work at a place that doesn't allow them to even enter this public conversation.

I took the time to submit the description, came up the the hashtag, handled all the correspondence with SXSWeco and the panelists and most importantly came up with every single question that I asked the panelists on my own. We could go on and on about splitting hairs on terminology but until SXSWeco provides us with the information you requested, I think we have to agree that we view this differently.

When what situation changed? I've never been dishonest and told everyone I talked to about Monsanto paying my travel, including my current employer and the client I work with to make sure they were aware of it. I think even Tom will agree that my questions did not come across as slanted or seeded by anyone. They were my own based on my research and talking with the other panelists. Again. If I said HP paid for me or CI, would anyone be talking about this?

I was with HuffPost when I submitted, but left in June. You know the submission process, they ask for organizers and speakers. I was both. No place on the form for who "pitched" the idea. Just putting that in quotes because many people can view pitch differently. Trying to make the process clear to those not familiar.

Tom,
I appreciate you reaching out to me for my responses. I must state that I was never asked by SXSW to reveal if I had received any assistance in getting panelists or if someone was paying for my travel. At the opening of our panel, after welcoming everyone, and asking who had something to do with farming or the food industry, I made it very clear that my, and the other panelists all had their travel paid for by Monsanto, but we were never told what to say or not say. As a matter of fact, Janice knows better than to try to tell a farmer what to do(that was my attempt at humor). The interesting to me is why everyone is focusing just on Monsanto. Correct that, why everyone is focusing on Monsanto just for this issue of paying for an speaker's travel. This was my first eco, but I've been to several SXSW events before. There are many speakers, bloggers and attendees that are paid by other companies to attend. My educated guess is that I was not the only person to receive an airline ticket and hotel to speak on a panel from someone other than the company they work for. If that is the issue, we should be looking at SXSW to make the event clear in what the guidelines are and not be putting all the blame on Monsanto. At least for paying for my travel.
