Motorola's general policy is to support one platform number update for each device, and the G5 series was just updated to Oreo in the last few months, so there is no expectation it would be updated again to Pie.

The differentiator between this Chromebook and the other two you've mentioned is the Wacom stylus. That alone typically adds about $100 to the cost of a machine. That said, I have a Samsung Galaxy A Tab with S Pen that works just as well for half the price.

I personally use OneDrive as part of the Office 365 Personal package, but the one piece that MS lacks that Google and iCloud both have is its own mobile OS (Windows Phone is still being updated with regular security and app fixes, but it's for all intents and purposes dead, while Google has Android and iCloud has iOS). That said, Microsoft has turned Android into its "new" Windows Phone platform with the apps they've been releasing and some devices (Samsung) are now including the Office apps preinstalled.

That the Moto G5 devices aren't on the list to receive Android Pie is not a surprise, as the phone maker is just now rolling out Oreo (I finally got the Oreo update on my G5S Plus two days ago), and their official support policy is to support one version upgrade only on each generation of device (and the G5 released with Nougat). Unfortunately the G6 specs are inferior to those of the G5S.

The update tool on their site isn't working. Already believes I have the latest version and it's 1803.
UPDATE: It was Microsoft Edge. Visited with Chrome and it gave me the right update tool.

I bought one of these ages ago on clearance for $400. Found out later that it had upgraded firmware, which expanded the number of samples that could be stored, but eliminated the ability to load voices over MIDI from the code to make room in memory, although they didn't remove the "function" from the on-board menu. I found this out the hard way. I still remember seeing it the first time at Sightsinger Music when it was in around in So. Cal.; they had a bunch of "Star Wars" samples loaded into it.
