Except Urnex is designed for the food service industry -- meaning that it has to be "food safe" and thus can't include things like toxic bleaches, etc.

The only real "obsession" is this nonsensical supply & demand in the media for weekly coffee medical study after weekly coffee medical study for the tune of billions of research dollars over several decades. And for what? To keep beating this dead horse? Make it stop.

This is hardly a "gourmet moment". We've got coffee being treated as a flavoring ingredient in the mass-produced beverage fad of the month. We've got cold coffee as made in 17th century Kyoto, Japan suddenly being called the new "hot" thing. I just think a lot of people are bored and hot in the summer heat is all.

Addiction presumes that you have to consume ever-increasing amounts to receive the same physiological effects because of a tolerance you build up. So no, coffee is not an addiction. And please don't belittle the people who face real addictions every day.

Does this ever sound like a bogus lawsuit. Urnex is designed specifically for the food-service industry. Meaning it is a cleaning agent that is required by law to be "food safe". Thus there is a tendency to lean on citric acids (call it lemon juice) as a solvent rather than chlorine or bleach, etc.
Sounds like someone has been kicking themselves over not getting a piece of the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit.

Let me get this straight: cold brew coffee, also called Kyoto coffee, originated in 17th century Japan. So it is the "latest coffee craze"? You could buy this stuff in bottles for years.
Are you sure you're not confusing it with nitro brew coffee, which was invented by Stumptown around 2012 and has been popular in a few U.S. markets in several summers since?

You can grow coffee in your yard... there are (not entirely reputable) sellers who will sell you coffee plants.
This Santa Barbara project has been going on for several years now. I just can't see the price of domestic production competing with the quality you can get with third world wages and real estate prices overseas.

Ugh. This really is an insult to science. "Caffeine addicted" would suggest that the beetles need to consume more and more caffeine to experience the same physiological effects before they developed a tolerance. What we have here are bacteria that prevent them from experiencing the physiological effects at all to begin with.
Thus they are more "caffeine immune", not "caffeine addicted".

This has always been a gag novelty for the coffee tourist too clueless to know the difference between price and quality. The only "controversy" is in the media pretending coffee connoisseurs care about it when they clearly don't take it seriously.

The main problem is that it's beer... well, sorta. More like second-rate as beer, second-rate as coffee -- as what I've found with every example I've tried.

Reducing coffee to a mere flavoring ingredient debases the product. You won't find fans of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti touting recipes to make sangria or spiced mulled wine with the stuff -- no matter how "refreshing" that might be in summer or warming in winter.

But it's not just the Web. CNN's mobile app is one of the biggest jokes out there. If I hired an 8-year-old who wanted to create a cheap native mobile app with lots of inane video links, the kid would largely come up with something that is 90% accurate to the CNN mobile app. So organizational culture also plays a role here.
