And speaking of "agendas," it appears that you have an agenda of your own -- i.e., that homosexual relations are superior to those of heterosexuals. If that is the case, why would your current, young bisexual lover find himself fighting his inner demons?

Finally, what has your scathing dismissible of Calib Carr's writing style got to do with the topic under discussion, the film? Personally, I love "the Alienist" and "The Angel of Darkness," and I truly admire Calib Carr"s "Victorian prose," which fits perfectly with the era in which the the novels are set. You obviously detested Lucien Carr, probably because after leaving prison he married, became a father, and, evidently, never engaged in homosexual relations again. This of course doesn't fit your own aganda.

The, when I heard the acrimonious tones of "he who I would like to see replaced by a Progressive voice" (thank you, Ihulley, for the title), my radio was turned off off till 6pm when Malloy comes on. Would the PD please get a clue, or do we have another John Scott on our hands?

Nicole was on fire today, Wednesday. Love her:) Too bad she's followed by "he who I would like to see replaced by a Progressive voice," (thank you Ihulley; great title). Now my radio goes off for three hours, until Malloy comes on at 6pm (as soon as I here "Mommy used to say..." that's my cue).
What the bleep is wrong with the PD?? Get a clue, please.

Let the Southern states cede from the union. Who needs them? The issue of slavery aside, I don't understand why Abe Lincoln was so anxious to keep the union intact. As it is, the USA is like 50 different countries, with different cultures and traditions, just like the European countries. As a matter of fact, I think California should cede and become a separate country. We don't need this powerful central government getting us into wars, and this dictatorship of judges deciding that corporations are persons. Well, I can dream . . .

Maybe you should try contacting Clear Channel, specifically Michael Erickson, Regional Vice President of Programming, for Northern CA. When I wrote to him last year about the program changes (i.e., about getting Hartmann's show reinstated), it got me a personal interview with John Scott.

Hello Madison, Yes, I'd like to help. Last year, when Thom Hartmann was moved to the afternoon, had an hour cut from his show, and,ultimately, was about to be dropped from Gr. 960 entirely, I founded an advocacy group to get Thom's show reinstated to its full three hours, in its original 9-12 slot. After a lot of work, our advocacy was successful, Hartmann's show has, indeed, been reinstated.
Initially, we need to get a like-minded group together (e.g., Lori L., who was in the Hartmann group; Tabla rasta; reyespd, Mr. Underhill, et al.), and we need a way to communicate, privately, away from this site, as we work out a strategy.
The way I see it, there are two issues: We want want our own, permanent, Listeners Comments blog and we want Karel replaced. Anyway, if you want to get the group together this time, I'll definitely help. You, or anyone else can email me privately at sdianaj (gmail. com). Susan

Judy, I'm on Medicare, and it's not that great: It covers only 80% of primary and hospital care; it does not cover dental, eye glasses, and many other necessary services; the Part D drug coverage is a joke. (And lets face it, it's not "free," I and my deceased husband paid into it for decades.)
Of course, maybe I'm comparing Medicare with the health care I grew up with -- the British NHS. That's what we need in the U.S. -- A system that ensures that all the medical needs of Americans are covered. Right now, 60% of taxpayer monies are going to pay for the military. All this country needs to do is switch it's priorities, from a focus on weapons and death to an emphasis on health and life, and then America could have its own NHS.

Great minds think alike!. I Love Loren Eiseley. I have all his books, as well as his biography, by Gale Christianson, "Fox At The Wood's Edge." I read "The Immense Journey," back in the sixties, and it blew me away. Do you like Borges?

Karel, I agree with you 100%. I grew up in England, so I know what it's like to have health care as a right. The British National Health Service provided for all our medical and dental need, and doctors made house calls (they still do, actually). A citizen is given a NHS card, and that's all you need. There is no such thing as a medical bill in England.
I'm glad you brought up Medicare and Social Security on Thursday. I'm in my sixties and living on SS, less than $900 per mo.
Medicare Part D is a joke. Every time I find a pharmacudiacl comp. that will cover most of my meds., all of a sudden the most expensive medication disappears from the formulary. I've been through hell with this problem, and, as a consequence, I've signed up with five different companies in the last 18 months.To top it off, one of my meds. is not covered by Medicare at all, and costs me over $200 per month. Also, I need new eye glasses, dental care, denture repair, and chiropractic treatment, none of which is covered by Medicare. Moreover, Medicare pays only 80% of primary care and hospital medical bills.
So if all American citizens were covered by Medicare, they would still have to pay for 20% of their health care; they would have no dental care; they'd have problems getting their prescription drugs, and they'd have to pay for their eye glasses.
Medicare is something I and my deceased husband paid into all our working lives, so it's not a "handout."
I suppose Medicare is better than nothing, but there is no comparison with the NHS. You are right -- nothing less than universal coverage, as provided in every other industrialized country, will do.

No I'm nobody special -- just an aging hippie; former professional stage actress; published writer, and retired academic. After I quit the theater, I became involved in the Academy, got my degrees, ended up teaching university classes, but got laid off (along with a lot of other non-tenured lecturers) when Arnold cut millions from the CA education budget and dozens of classes were cut. Now, I'm mostly working at home as an editor and private English tutor. But I know good writing when I see it, and your prose is utterly compelling.
