Really, that argument is usually reserved for those that want to dismiss what they don't understand.

Re: Dembot - Quarterlife Creator Missed Online and TV

But responding to the sentiment that Marshall talked about, I think it's really full of shit, and just an excuse to give to his investors. There is no reason why there couldn't be a show that straddles both mediums and be successful.

Just look at XPlay. It's becoming more like a "Webshow" every day. And the 1UP Show is really the best games show around, and could easily translate to TV will few changes. (Mainly on time, tightening of format, etc...)

However, shows like Movie Mob are shit because it is a web show, but ultimately the insight from the contributers is shit, and it's weird to watch a critic show when the people are so sure of their narcissistic opinions.

It's such an exciting time because people are trying new things, but there will be 98% failures, and some things that transcend. Really not any different than any other time in history.

Re: Dembot - Quarterlife Creator Missed Online and TV

Brad, that's really going to be a question about how things turn out. How much are investors be willing to put into a project when the future of the revenue is so uncertain.

There might be a day where budgets and quality can keep up with their ad revenue, but we're not close yet.

Here's an interesting but kinda obvious article on the subject:

http://www.theatlantic.com/...

It's good that quarterlife explored making the web more "professional," but the show was shit, so it's no surprise that no one watched. Once shows are better written and more tactfully produced, the audience will be there. How this will work with the unions will also be interesting.

Re: Dembot - Sun, Sun, Sun, Here it Comes

Hell Andrew, I don't know who's gotten to you, but please christ keep up what you think. There is no either or. You have a perspective on things that no one else has, and it is valuable. As any linguist will tell you, you can't define the positive without the negative, and there's no reason to favor one over the other. People are dumping millions into bad ideas (cough Rev3 cough) and they need to be called on it.

Re: Dembot - Must Read Story on Quarterlife (Made for TV?)

The Quarterlife thing is really embarrassing. It's interesting how a NBC executive would greenlight this project when it's derivative awful muck. Though Caveman is really original. RIght? RIght?

What's been clear to me through the people that I know in the industry, whether it be the BBC, Nippon TV, Australian Broadcasting, etc, is that the people holding the reins don't get it on a very pure level.

I was shocked at a meeting with the head of the BBC digital services, the main driver of web technology at the BBC could sit and talk to a group of people as if it was 1997, not 2007. Everyone has been howling at how far ahead the BBC is, but believe me, if you would have read the transcript form the meeting, you would have been greatly disappointed.

They merely want to slap their content structures from 1965 in an online video player. They really have no idea of how the audience has changed, how they aren't stupid anymore, and need something more than just paint by numbers content.

Re: Dembot - Techcrunch: Sarah Meyers’ Live Online TV Show

Wow, just what we need, another tech show!!! And I can't wait to wake up at 3 AM (am in Japan) to watch live... Am I missing something?
