The issue is that not all problems are created equal. The problem of being bored on a Saturday afternoon is not the same as the problem of creating a new form of energy, a better form of transportation, or a new era of space travel.

Web 1.0 was about turning hard data into digital data. Web 2.0 is about finding ways to share that data in better, larger, and more efficient ways.

Web 3.0, Fred, is about finding ways to take that shared information and come up with solutions to the world's problems. Using social graph data to detect trends. Finding mental illness before teens suicide. Collectively using our shared resources to improve energy efficiency.

That's what I'm waiting for.

Re: Did You Know Barack Obama is the #2 Google Result for Searches of Facebook?

I find that really interesting. You won't get burned and shunned by your customers because you don't have a webmaster (more likely just ignored). You WILL be blindsided if you don't have your eye hovering over social media, just as Comcast, Sony, and hundreds of companies have been. Social Media is about spreading the word rather than managing a website as a webmaster (a job, mind you, that still exists).

Second, I don't disagree that it will eventually melt into marketing and PR - like I said in the article, the job title may change, how its addressed will absolutely changed. But social media-related jobs will NOT vanish - those responsibilities will only grow. Rather than become small parts of a marketer's jobs, those parts of the job will grow as social media grows and more users plug in.

And thanks for the mention, Eric!

Re: rizzn's personal blog

You know Mark, I came into writing that article thinking I was going to say that Social Media Jobs were going to vanish, but with the research my opinion switched. What might happen though is social media responsibilities being spread out to more people in an organization. Thus no need for singular Social media jobs

Re: I has a following!

I'm very honored to be called fantastic!

Re: Obama: Name your Cabinet (Scripting News)

Dave, you need to really, really take a realistic look at what you're suggesting and saying, both good and bad.

1) Showing your government is all campaign/politics doesn't look good in the end. They can understand the VP being more of a political pick, but then all of your cabinet positions are political picks as well rather than picks based on qualifications.

2) It takes TIME to pick these people. Months of research Obama doesn't have time for. I want him to research all these people

3) Most cabinet members are HORRIBLE campaigners. Most aren't even politics.

4) You underestimate the depth of the GOP. You need to look at the big picture - most cabinet members are not politicians. There's depth when you ignore politicians. Plenty of economists, business leaders, and current directors to pull from. I mean, do you think the Secretary of Labor or Veteran Affairs should be a politician?!

5) Now for the compliment: The strategy could work IF YOU JUST LEAK A NAME. "Obama intends to name ___ to the Secretary of Defense Post." That person is sly in answering questions while campaigning, speculation comes back to Obama, talks about how smart the pick is.

6) Hillary would probably never accept a post pre-election, only post-election.

7) It makes Obama sound to presumptuous to have chosen even part of his cabinet before he's sealed the deal. People hate "cocky" and that's what it looks like.

Re: The end of standard blog design [Mashable rocks]

Mashable indeed rocks.
