We started ours for less but we also started with Kickstarter. We're also a very small shop and we make our products ourselves.

Thanks for the great post!

Re: US consolidated

Looks like Portsmouth may be up at 5:15PM. I believe you need to be well connected and very active on at least Twitter or Facebook. My first two Kickstarters were only supported via Twitter and the third one will include Facebook. You have to promote yourself well and be very active, imo, on your campaign page - I acknowledged every person's comments on both campaigns and would stay on top of that several times a day. Good luck!

https://www.kickstarter.com...

Re: How to Run a Successful Board Gaming Event - Part 02 - Game Day is Upon You

Phenomenal article! Signage is so much harder than most people ever imagine and requires good planning.

If you ever want a mini tourney, let me know. The STGCON ran a 16 person Mint Tin Mini Apocalypse tournament and we ran a 30 person, 2 day one here at my work. Games are very fast to play and here we did best 2 out of 3 but you could do a Swiss tournament or anything else (there is some good free online software for laying out and running tournaments). Using the game's internal point system also helps make it feel very fair. Looking forward to your next one.

Re: How to Run a Successful Board Gaming Event

Hmm, did you send me an email? It seems like it should be so easy but several takes later . . . As someone who can't draw at all, it's a bummer to hire someone to do my current children's books BUT if I don't believe enough in my work to pay a creative to make my images, then why should they believe in it too?

An ethical person will pay up front.

Now if it was me and a buddy and we came up with some idea like "let's make a game" and he could draw and i had something I could contribute, then maybe that's okay.

But a professional endeavor needs to do the right thing - pay your talent!

hmm, with the "pay on publication" approach, I wonder if I could get free food for a few years and once I win the Olympics and get TV endorsements, then I'll pay for all that food . . .

Re: What Are Sketch Notes?

excellent post - my only difference is that i use an 8.5" by 17" sketch pad (no lines) and also a pencil without an eraser

an eraser slows you down and lets you get bogged down in minutia rather than the larger concept at hand

i do a lot of graphic design and for note taking, i don't need perfect lines, that comes later =)

thanks!

Re: Unmetered Regions for $40 / Month. Thank you Ilan, I suspected that you had efficiencies similar to that of Second Life (in that you have dedicated servers for various services).

As a side-by-side comparison, it is inevitable that your architecture is superior in performance to a one server deployment - is that a fair assumption to make?

As a customer, my desire would be to both have a better and more economical solution. It sounds like that is definitely the case in this discussion.

The blunt question being: will Kitely serve up the same virtual world better than a single Q9400, 8 GB RAM server with 5,000 GB bandwidth?

PS - You also probably realise that Ener will take your comment about architecture and turn it into a blog post! :)

Re: Use Kitely Without Facebook

Thanks for the explanation - i will send you an email to see about linking a twitter account to my Facebook account.

Re: Unmetered Regions for $40 / Month. Am I to understand that "powerful multi-core, 7.5 GB servers" means a 16 region grid would have access to 7.5 GB of RAM?

Are you able to specify how many cores are at a 16 region's disposal?

This inquiry is so that I may compare my current configuration with yours.

We run 30,000 prims with 500 scripts (scripts are predominantly sit and rotation scripts with a handful of particle scripts for smoke and snow) and this takes about 3.6 GB of RAM (total RAM including Windows Server 2008 R2 which is almost 1 GB of that total) and 10% of our Q9400's 4 cores with 10 people online.

Of course, our server must also do inventory and accounts.

I assume accounts are on a separate server as is inventory?

If so, your offering is very strong. I look forward to your answers and also want to thank you for the code you contribute to OpenSimulator.

Edit: Do these worlds also allow access lists, such as you have had before with Twitter groups?
