That is fantastic news. I had seen your earlier post about parts hold, and was expecting a drawn out drama.

I just bought myself tickets for a 'very long weekend' next week, and will put my MBP into the shop the day before I leave. Hopefully everything goes well, and I'll have it ready and waiting for me when I return.

Twitter: @stuninzuri

Thanks again for the feedback. Things like this freak me out.

Stu

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M and 2007-08 MacBook Pro Saga

No Problem :) Thanks for replying in detail.

So, with all that info in mind and printed out, I popped into my local Mac dealer (Data Quest here in Zurich). They told me a) my MBP was covered, and b) 5-day turn around. Not bad. It's my work machine, so I think I'll take a short holiday in a week or so while it is in the shop.

Thanks again, and good luck with your repair!

Stu

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M and 2007-08 MacBook Pro Saga

Hi,

Where are you on this?

I'm having problems with my MBP (same specs as yours). Although my problems are different issues than yours (namely no video on second monitor), and I can live with them for now, it is a concern. I do lots of GPU-heavy tasks and am nervous this will push the apparently fragile nVidia chip over the edge. Then, I'd lose my Mac for an extended period. Worse than no Internet!!!

So, I was thinking of getting my MBP into the shop before disaster strikes, as it is demonstratively defective.

How long will the repair take? Do they actually replace the chip? Or??? Anything else interesting to report?

tia,

Stu
