(+ free workbook)

For 2 years I embodied my why.

It didn't pay financially, but it paid in every other way.

While I was emobodying my why:

- I felt great.
- My business fell apart.
- My income fell apart.
- Google changed the rules

And now I'm back to doing things for finances, rather than my why.

I spent 4 months job hunting, being told by the 400+ jobs that I actually applied for that I was overqualified.

So now I'm working for a friend, and have been stuck here for a year. But
I have the job in order to achieve real estate goals (have to have the
job to qualify for the loans we want to get for the cash flow real
estate we want), and even then, the real estate process has been
heartbreaking and felt to be moving at the speed of molasses on a flat
surface during a Canadian blizzard.

If my why doesn't pay financially, it doesn't work.

I don't know how to get my why to pay - at least not in a way that is
significant financially - at least not in a way that lets me do the
kinds of things I want to do.

It hurts my heart every day.

The people I've reached out to for help (the people who actually have the
answers I need/want - rather than those who think they have the answers)
want to charge me $250/hour for consulting - and those sessions have
achieved very little for me.

I've lost my belief, and I don't know how to get it back.

I completed your questions workbook... but it doesn't really seem to
matter... I've built a trap, and it seems I'm the only one who can get
out of it, because I'm the one who built the trap.

But I don't know the way out, and I don't want out if it just means more heartbreak
that things don't change, that people don't change, and that the world
doesn't get better.

I see that it does get better, people do change and improve, and that things do change, but I'm unable to do anything to grasp it for me in a way that's meaningful financially.

Evenif I do make it meaningful financially, it is affected by the whims of Google, the desires of large companies who perceive me as a threat when I really want to support their mission, and the people around who perceive that their reality is reality, rather than just their reality.

Of course there's a long back story behind all of this...

I don't even know why I'm writing this. It seems it doesn't matter anyway.

Iwould like to be the hopeful and optimistic person I am at my core, but right now I just want to say "Not Cool Robert Frost" about the Road Less Traveled. Not Cool at All.

I feel a part of me wanting to migrate over to that road of mediocrity - I want that part of me to jump off of a very tall building and land with a very loud and satisfying splat.

The world needs my voice - my enthusiasm, my care, and my insight.

But it seems to not want to pay me for it... at least not in a way that's meaningful.

And if that's the case... then at least with mediocrity I end up comfortable.

But it's not what I want. I want and believe in abundance... it's just that the path to get there is so unclear to me now.

What a rant... I'm stopping now.

Re: 6 Steps to Building a World-Changing Team (Plus, the Official Live Your Legend Team Revealed!)

I'm left feeling overwhelmed as well. That is not the case now... now I have a great team. But that takes time and process to get there... for some more than others. I was raised and taught to be an employee. Being an employer of the time, talents, skills, and interests of others is definitely something that takes time and focused attention. But we didn't (and still don't, actually) have a camera that has a mic-in that works at the same time as recording the video. I've got this Apitek HD1080P that works great for video, but is really lame for non-first person audio since they put the microphone in the top (rather than the front) of the camera.

I'll be getting something new when we're back in the states at the end of April. I know you said you weren't going to get into recommendations, but anything stand out in the under $350 range with a mic plug-in?

Oh, and the cuy was fine to try... once.

Thanks Jim!

Warmest,

Jonathan
http://www.CarrieAndJonatha...

Re: Creating Video for the Web – Examples, Strategies, and Pitfalls

I definitely agree that it's not easy. Generally speaking, the general population also expects a lot from video and people making videos. TV has taught us to expect a lot by investing at least 8 hours into every 30 seconds we watch.

I do really like your point about choosing 2 of 3. I think if you're a sole producer of content, and you're working to produce daily content, sometimes it is possible to decide that the video is good enough. I know good is the enemy of great, but sometimes, especially if you're starting out producing daily video, good enough has to do, at least for now.

Some people I've talked with have a hard time understanding how I spent 5 hours of working on this one, but I decided it was good enough:
http://carrieandjonathan.co...

This one, however, took 20+ hours and is one of my favorites I've ever done for our site:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Thanks for your tips. It's fun and is you.

Why should your blog have to represent anything different than who you are, just because a few people took/take you the wrong way and didn't/don't get it?

Jonathan
http://www.ThreeMoneyMethod...

Re: You are the Captain

Thank-you Chris.

I feel like I've successfully figured out how to sail differently than others (which is a good thing because based on what I've seen, 90-95% of people don't really have what they want in life). But in doing so, it's like I have become very separated from the fleet of ships moving across the ocean.

I have become my own captain. I don't mind that so much, and I rather enjoy it, but I do find it difficult to reach like-minded people who are willing to take action on what they want to accomplish.

I guess I'm still looking for my sailing group. There are moments and times where I feel like I'm working with others to create something great, and other times where I feel really alone in what I want to accomplish, and feel really cynical about others' willingness to take actions and make changes that make a difference.

I feel like maybe I lack the skills or experience or charisma to be part of that group... that's not really it. I feel confident in my abilities, but why work so hard to share "good news" with others, when 80% of them who say they want "good news" will offer excuses about not having time to make changes, and would rather watch the nightly news and program their minds that way? And how do I find the 20% who really will make a difference, without being overrun and bombarded (and torpedoed) by the 80%?

I don't really know what the solution is there. And I keep looking for an answer to something that doesn't really have an answer.

Jim Rohn would say "Don't be perplexed by the perplexed. It's perplexing."

You're right... moving faster isn't necessarily the solution. I just sometimes think that if I move faster, I'll get "there" quicker. As you've rightly pointed out, maybe... maybe not... Lots of variables there.

I'm definitely looking for my tribe... my fleet.

I of course have friends and connections who want to see me succeed, and within the business, there are a few people who I've come to rely on in working on projects and outsourcing work to (after wading through SO many people who haven't done what they said they would do).

I want a bigger tribe. I want more connections. I just know that most of the people I connect with won't end up being part of the fleet, because they simply won't take action on the information they receive, and won't take action on what they want in life.

I will continue to work on finding more synergy with more people. I think that is powerful advice. Any suggestions from your own experience on how to go about doing so?

Thank-you again for your insight, and for making the time to respond.

Warmest,

Jonathan

Re: You are the Captain

Hey Chris,

Wow.

Huge insight in this post. I've been looking over my ship a lot lately and it's moving along very well, but not as quickly as I would like it to move. Any suggestions for ways to take a ship (an Internet business that's doing very well (by most people's standards)) and throw some giant motors on the back?

Thanks again for the post.

Warmest,

Jonathan
http://www.ThreeMoneyMethod...
