Oh well. You would think they would consider financial situations, since they want people to be financially strong, but they seem to think that the pride you get from 'being a good citizen' outweighs any financial trouble it might cause.

Re: No Thanks, I Don’t Want Your Money - Financial Independence

Yeah, graduating right now is tough. I'll be done with school in August, and it's rough knowing I've got to find something quick or we're on the ropes. I agree with your last comment - figuring it out on your own can only make you stronger.

Re: Friday Quotables - Where’s Our Refund? I had to read it for a personal finance class I took here in school and I was hooked.

Re: Debit or Credit - Can I See Your Cards?

Good call - we great great points from our card as well, so we have some things we use it for, but you're right - if you don't have the money in your account to pay it off at the end of the month, don't do it!

Re: Debit or Credit - Can I See Your Cards?

Ken - great tip. That's something I can get better at as well. It's easy just to think the fact it's being recorded by your bank and you can check it there is enough, but it's often not.

Re: Mythbustin’ the Economy

Nice. I'm with you on No. 10 - when has a good credit score NOT helped? It might not help as much as a bad credit score can hurt you, but still - there's no reason not to work towards good credit.

Re: Get (real) Rewards For Searching the Internet

@ Myriam - Hey - thanks for stopping by! Glad you enjoyed this article as well as Adam and his YMR blog (it's good stuff, isn't it?) If you're willing to sacrifice, work hard, and improvise, you can make anything happen, even if it means becoming a millionaire. Kudos to this couple for their dedication, I hope it pays off for them.

Re: Why It Doesn’t Matter How Much You Make

@ Nate - glad you liked it. The lessons this article teaches are essential to learn.

@ Ken - exactly! If every dollar has a job, then you can be successful, no matter how much you're earning.

@ Trevor - thanks for stopping by, Pretty amazing stuff, isn't it? I'm sure glad we know what we do now.

@ B7 I think your statement is true for the majority of people out there. The lucky few who make a ton of money and can manage it will continue to become wealthy, but the other 99 percent will lose it, just like the article said.

Re: Jury Duty

Hopefully you get your check soon. Luckily the tools do help us be more productive (and make some cash) so we're comfortable if we need to make a new purchase.

Re: Save Yourself From Debt

@J. Money - my thoughts exactly.

@Tom - it completely depends on your personal situation. We tried to start at 10%, but that was just a bit too much for us, so I think we ended knocking down to 5% or so (we tried to use easy round numbers so it was easy to figure out). Now that we're 'set' on our budget, we've been able to bump it back up to 10%, plus any unplanned income (tax returns, etc).

Re: Weekly Blog Roundup, March 15th

Thanks for the link!

Re: Cramer vs. Stewart - Official Debate Scorecard

Ever since you posted the first video, I've been following along. NO!!!

Yeah!!!!!!! Save more! Just because we've been doing the right thing doesn't mean we've caused problems for everyone else or are prolonging them. I don't think we should cut off spending, but there's nothing wrong with saving up for something before you spend.

Re: Coupons - Cool Again?

@ Maria - Sounds like you've perfected the system by skipping stores completely! I admire the fact that you've developed your own way to save.

@ Matt - The 50% savings is a big reason we've started to get into coupons. The combination of sales/coupons can be a sweet thing.

@ CouponDad - Thanks for pointing out the other resources! We'll have to check those out. I think people think of coupons and picture hours of sorting through thousands of coupons and getting arthritis from cutting them out, but as we're learning, it's quite a bit simpler and can really pay off. I bet food is one of the top five expenses for almost every family, and cutting that way down can free up cash for other budget areas or even a nice little savings fund.
