So where is the letter to the editor we're supposed to read first? Why was it published under the rebuttal from Mary Arata?

Ms. Arata could have asked so many questions beyond "NO" of the July 4
committee - such as what are the requirements for participating in the
parade? What is the reasoning behind the decision? Will there be future
restrictions on parade participation?

What about purpose of the peaceful marchers -- to protect the water supply for Ayer and Littleton and the businesses that depend on it, from a known and convicted polluter, Pan Am Railways?

It's ironic that a newspaper and a group convened to celebrate American
liberty and freedom concur that free speech and a peaceful poignant
reminder about clean water ought to be excluded from a July 4 event.

religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging
the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the
people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for

Where are the interviews? Dd the reporter bother to pick up the phone? She's just reporting on email transactions and treating a letter to the editor from Susan Tordella like an interview. This is lazy writing and doesn't answer the question of WHY the july 4th committee refused to allow a patriot expression of protest. July 4th is an ideal time to celebrate America's founding ideas of liberty and free speech.

Ford Focus is making it big as a US hybrid and mistakenly branding Ford as an environmentally friendly company.
Not so in my town where Ford Motor Co. is partnering with a known polluter - Pan Am Railways - to build a 25 acre parking lot over an aquifer that supplies water to 15,000 people, to unload Ford vehicles. (go to www.cleanwaterwarrior.com for more info)

It's a bad idea for our town and we have been rallying to stop it for 10 years. Ford is the main client and has the power to stop it. Ford shows its environmental concern in other areas, but not this one.

We're hoping Ford will step up to to the plate and protect our water supply for generations to come.

I hope you can get Pan Am Railways to cooperate with you in a timely manner that shows they care about the community. I'm all for public transit and rail transit- when it respects the community.

In my town of Ayer, MA, Pan Am is showing NO REGARD for the community. Pan Am is building a 25 acre parking lot over the underground water supply for 15,000 people to unload Ford Motor Vehicles.
We're not happy about this project, yet because of big money and big business with the endorsement of our government, it's like we live in a third world country

I'm happy that automakers are concerned about the environment.

However, Ford is somewhat hypocritical because in Ayer, MA, it is partnering with Pan Am Railways, which has an abysmal environmental record, to pave 25 acres over the Spectacle Pond Aquifer. The project jeopardizes the clean water supply for 15,000 people.

That's our government for you. The regulators, regulations, governor, EPA and those with money and power are in bed with known polluters who don't care about the environment or clean water. We're fighting against regulatory gaps that allow Pan Am Railways and Ford Motor Company to build over our aquifer and threaten the drinking water of 15,000 people.

I need help from other greensters.

On Friday I'm hosting unHappy Hour at the Aquifer Bar, serving Gin and Toxics, Runoff Rickey and Diesel Daiquiris at the Ayer, MA rotary [traffic circle] June 12 and 26, 5-7 pm, rain or shine.

We're protesting Pan Am Railroad, which broke ground to build a 26- acre parking lot to unload Ford autos [coordinated by UPS] over an aquifer within days of being fined $400,000 for an under-reported and tardily reported spill a few miles down the track of between 800 and 1700 gallons. Pan Am is a known polluter and they're being given the keys to our aquifer. We've fought it for 10 years and lost. Our last hope is demonstrating.

The aquifer supplies 60 percent of Ayer, MA's water. The construction is in process when a perfectly good lot is across the street.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent our aquifer from getting railroaded?
