With respect to small businesses seeking to attract local customers, I generally say pass on Pinterest until you've got other proven marketing and social media strategies dialed in.

Pinterest is not without its promise. It can be engaging, informative, and for some a valuable channel to reach audiences. Do a considerable number of your current and/or potential customers use Pinterest? Do you already have email marketing, SEO, Twitter, and Facebook strategies dialed in?

I respect Pinterest, but there is lower hanging fruit.

As I logged into my company salesforce.com account I was greeted by the announcement. I found the acquisition extremely noteworthy. Undoubtedly companies like Radian 6 had value, but value enough to be purchased by the likes of salesforce.com, wow! Social media just might be finding mainstream value.

Arizona does have a vibrant community, but indeed, without a focused and collaborative PR effort, or an IPO per quarter, I don't believe mainstream recognition will ever come.

It's too bad. We've got history - internet startup tales that would make a great overall story (Neoplanet, Opnix, etc.), and potential greats in the present as well.

I'm so over Silicon Valley and ridiculous rankings that include it.

P.S. Years ago I was excited at the possibility of what the Arizona Technology Council could accomplish in this regard but....

Seriously, no worries. I'm a research snob, and probably not the intended audience. Taking that research hat off and putting the marketer hat on: That report served at least part of it's major purpose, to generate exposure for HubSpot's solution. (Next let's see the resulting signups, eh?)

With a little more indepth analysis though, I think that report could be major. A major driver of business, and a major demonstration of thought leadership (if it isn't already). I've had ideas about a report concerning twitter usage for some time now and wow, the findings a deeper report could uncover are awesome. For instance, when do twitter users typically begin to utilize other applications (tweetdeck, nambu, tweetie, etc.) to interface with twitter? How does the... Bah, here I go again.

Alright, I'm off to take the kids to swim class. You need some help Big D, lemme know.

I didn't know the fist had been labeled the "Quarter Pounder!" Hmmn, now I
do see your point. Also enlightening, your point of incorporating a racial
mix.

Now that I think about it, advertising that is exclusively filled with
"Black" images is off putting, at least to me (anyone else?)

I wonder if advertisers think that unless they soak their communications
with 'Blackness', we-the black audience-will miss it.

Rajiv, how were you able to ensure that the "sharethis" app ties to the permalink address of the exact tumblr post from the main tumblr page?

From the main page my sharethis links come up as http://www.stevenbshaffer.c.... Only after clicking through to the post does the actual permalink address become available to share. Help!

Thanks, Ann. Here in AZ, we are starting to notice more webinars/seminars on social media offered by those who seemingly have no presence in it. My concern is that done improperly, social media can stink just as bad as any other marketing tactic. The small business person then walks away shaking their head, a little less money in their pocket, a little more jaded to it all.
