So many people discipline is restrictive, to the contrary ... its freeing!

Re: Measuring in Social Media Marketing

Chris, great value AGAIn from you. What becomes ever clearer is that its less about Who to Back, and more about understanding and appreciating the intricacies of the different platforms to be able to optimize your usage of each platform. One also need to keep abreast with the developments on the platforms to ensure we have sufficient advance warning of where things are going.....in the next month or so!

Old marketing strategy where we did the same thing in different ways is gone for now. In the new mediascape we need to stay current with the developments and flexible with our strategy.

Re: When the conversation turns to business….

Isnt this the way it was aways done in our grandfathers time. People used to talk to each other. Then we got side tracked into thinking we could do things without relationship.

What we know now is that be be a success on-line, off-line, in business or socially, we need to be what I call our "Authentic Self". From here we develope what Simon calls his Circle of Trust. From there we add value, communicate, share, educate, empathize, lead or follow. But always in communication, and when I have a product you want or you have one I want, we are happy to do business with one another.

Re: “Social Traffic”, code of ethics

I dont think rules restrict. I dont think discipline inhibits. I dont think boundaries confine. As individuals we are all different and for us to work well together and be able to contribute to each others growth within the Social Media, we need parameters within which to work and rules of engagement to facilitate the ease and flow of conversation.

A code of conduct opens the door to lubricate the flow of great and valuable conversation. Thank you Simon.

Re: The quality of what you do…

Jonathan I must commend you for the way you have set a great example (not to mention leadership) in focusing on the quality of what you put out. You come across as confident, secure and knowledgeable. From this pace you add value and put in real effort in engaging and communicating with people. Here's a shout out for you as a leader amongst leaders.....Think Ill post this on FB as well.

Re: If you were a corporation, what’s your stock worth?

Very powerful article. I was reading some other work this morning on the local company here in South Africa that promotes Steve Coveys work. They use the slogan...."at the speed of Trust".

It stopped me dead in my tracks! Its exactly what Simon speaks about here. Keep pace with everything while we move forward at the highest speed possible but that our "terminal velocity" (for want of a better word" is of how long it takes us to establish TRUST with our audience. If we move faster than we can establish trust, we are adding quantity, whenwe move ahead at the same rate as we establish TRUST, we add quality.

When we add quality we increase the value or worth of our stock. (ourselves)

Re: Where are we heading now?

Wow, briliant article. I saw Kevin Kelly's video when it came out a couple of weeks ago. But I didnt have the insite to see past it as simon has done here. Having read this, my overall takeout is that now that we have this super-machine called the internet and everything will never be the same again. We must not lose sight that as things change they very often do a full circle and return to the same pace, with the same values but in different circumstances. What Simon says here is that to succeed going into the future we must never lose sight of the importance of quality relationships..

Re: Just To Recap A Few Important Points From The Book

Firstly thanks for the summary. Always good to have a checklist to see where we are and what we have left out.

As far as facebook is concerned, for me the discussion is academic. At the moment FB provides a very effective channel that is without doubt, best of breed. Other niche products may well, and probably will develop, that might be better than FB in certain areas. But if we learn the lessons from history .... better products have seldom de-throned a market leader.

MS DOS was not better than the UCSD-p sytem, One could argue PC are not better than Macs, was MS Office the best in all the areas it covered.

It all boils down to being number 1. This is what matters and what people remember.

Whos number 1 in the processor market?
Whats the number 1 OS in the world.
What is the number 1 copier company in the world.
What is the number 1 sports car company in the world

Once a company holds the number 1 slot is very difficult to dislodge it. UNLESS you change the rules of the game and become number 1 in the new game.

Its all comes back to what Simon spoke of in defining your niche - He suggested 1 inch wide and a mile deep!

FB has a uniquely broad niche which is going to be very difficult to replace.

Re: Simon Ford Testimony - DeeJay Hart

Thank you DeeJay, your testiomony is clear and convincing. I think that what is useful inthis course by Simon U ford is that sometimes we think we know a little, but this course not only shows that there is always so much more to learn, but that nothing works in isolation. Every bit of the Social Media can be part of the strategy you put together depending on what it is you want to achieve.

Re: Trigger Timing

What a lovely descriptive heading for this article. So many people rush up to you on facebook chat etc and stick their link in your face. Get lost buddy, I dont know you and I dont think I like you barging in like that!!!!! I fully subscribe to Simons concept of a slow and regular "revolving door" approach, of offering value over time during which trust and the relationship will build. And then presenting your invitation to do business just at the correct time - optimizes your chances of the sale. Great Post.

Re: Google Friend Connect Testimony - Steve Buchalter

Wonderful to look back and review comments I made on Simon U Fords' Social Traffic Course where I spoke about how much I was learning then and comparing that to where I am now, becoming really proficient in the Social Media

Re: Digg Course Testimony - Karin Boode

Hey Karin, You are it!
