Can I hear me now?

Tony, while the cash games are limit, and there is a five bet cap for each round of betting, there is no actual pot limit. In limit, if a player is heads up, then there is no cap on the number of bets. The limit games play similar to Vegas limit games. BTW, my wife and I just moved to Vegas last month. Thank you for visiting.

Re: The 42 Steps used when dealing a hand of poker

I agree with you. As we play mostly No Limit, I don't need to know the exact amount.
In cash games I need to keep track of the pot size to determine the rack. At the room I work at, it is one dollar for every ten, capped at $5 in pots totaling $50 or more. In the limit cash gsme, there is additional $1 taken one the pot reaches $20 or higher. This is taken for the "Bad Beat" jackpot. At those tables, I have three drops.
A lot goes on behind the scene during every hand of poker that is dealt.
I am enjoying every moment of it.

Re: Post #blackfriday actions

I will bring the towels!

Re: Stevie trips and falls.

That is too funny. Now that Railbirds.com seems to be languishing, this was a good time for me to sign up and see what Pokernatiions.com had to offer.

Re: Aces cracked, stacked again!

Thanks for the advice. I do like pocket Aces and am looking forward to getting them at least once every 220 hands or so. Sooner is ok as well.

Re: Pocket Aces in a cash game – there are many blogs talking about them!

Jack, thanks again for clarifying that. But after all the comments and all that I read, I had second thoughts. I initially thought that I did play the hand correctly but after reading the comments, I started to rethink what I had done, then I went and read some more about it.

I agree that I got in with the best hand and my opponent just got lucky at the river. If I played only when I had no chance of losing or the nuts only, I probably would not play much or win much. As always your answer comes at a good time. I was starting to question my self. I should always analyze my playing but there is a case where you can over analyze a hand.

Re: Cracked Aces post drew some very good comments – thank you!

Grundy, I have changed my thinking about getting in all the chips with pocket Aces. I would love to know that I had the nuts before committing all my chips. I know how to tell, so perhaps I should have just checked it down after the flop raise was called. But knowing that this player bets air pre-flop, I would probably have called any of his raises as well.

Re: Cracked Aces post drew some very good comments – thank you!

These discussions make me think as well. Both your comments and Grundy's have caused me to re-evaluate my playing of this hand. I have subscribed to your blog. Nice design.

Re: Small Ball Strategy – Pre Flop

When ever I hear a discussion of a hand using math to evaluate it, my eyes start to glaze over and I go into a zen like trance. Math is my weak point and I am going to have to embrace it and use it if I intend to be profitable at this game.

In answer to your question, I come into an un-raised pot with a bet of the pot size as my bet. In a .25/.50 game with .75 already in the pot, my post size bet amount to a raise of $1.75 3.5 times the size of the big blind. This appears to be a standard practice at the tables I play at. And I am not sure if just betting $1.50 would be as effective. Your point is well made.

I like your blog design, by the way.

Re: Aces cracked on my first hand of the session!

Jack, thanks for your comments. I doubt that I could play this hand any other way given what I knew about the opponent. It would have been nice had I flopped a set or a full house, but, I knew he was aggressive and could bet with air. He also plays with good cards so it does male it harder to know when you have the best of him.

Re: Aces cracked on my first hand of the session!

Very good questions. Based on what I have seem him play, I put him on Ace little or even AK and with his large stack, he was bullying the table as well. I did not believe that he had two pair or trips or I would have folded. He called all my raises and did not re-raise so I saw no indication of strength on his part except perhaps a hope that he would hit his card on the river. I doubt that if I just checked, that he would not have bet to get me to fold so I kept up the pressure. He sucked out at the river. In fact becuase of his style of play, I was able to win back from him most of what I had lost in that hand. His style of playing risky hands actually worked in my favor overall.

Re: Aces cracked on my first hand of the session!

Thank you. I don't feel bad about what happened. That is poker. I tend not to go all in pre-flop even with aces but I won't be intimidated to fold when I think I have the best hand. I did not feel that that flop really hurt m but my stack size would not let the aggressor fold.

Re: I play in fast tournments – and some are faster than others

I thought I had overcome my personal tilt but see that I am still not 100% my usually chatty self. That in itself is interesting to me as I have yet another item to add to my check list of things to work on. I am trying as you suggested to get back to my tempo. Of course nothing helps tempo building more than catching Aces or Kings as my pocket pairs!

As to your writing - you might be able to compile a list of your comments and transfer form it into the "best of Imannoth".

Re: Being on personal tilt – how that affects you!

lol. What happened was not as important to the post as was the affect it had on me. Thank you for asking about it. Although I do share many of my thoughts and ideas on my posting, I still am somewhat private about my day to day stuff. Maybe I need to open up more. We shall see.

Re: I play in fast tournments – and some are faster than others

More good insight. Thank you. It is true, poker is an in the "now" type of game. You cannot just go as you say with the "ABC" type of game - you have to know or learn what your opponents are trying to do and also try to figure out what they think you are trying to do. Levels within levels. Have you ever thought about writing a book or a blog? Perhaps you already have?

Re: December 1st cash game recap

Derrick, thank you for commenting. Even though I am technically not a math geek, I agree that over time, correct play and back to basics poker should win out. I was pleased that I did grind it out and play winning poker for the rest of the session, proving to myself that I could overcome one hand or two.

Re: I play in fast tournments – and some are faster than others

Imanoth, once again I am intrigued by your comments and I take to heart what you say about tempo.
