I think it's a pretty good cause for protest, along with the several other controversial energy harnessing techniques.

Re: Video: Carolyn Steele—How Food Shapes Our Cities

I agree with you Mike. My wife and I both agree that eating healthy in this country is both expensive and inconvenient.

Something occurred to me while reading this article. In our neighborhood, Stuart Heights, there is a young couple that started a "neighborhood garden." I've not taken the time to look into it to find out how they operate it, etc, but now I'm thinking it would be a great thing to start in the various neighborhoods around the community.

Basically, a resident with a rather large yard could volunteer part of his/her property and fence off a section big enough to grow a supple amount of crops. Then, anyone that wants to harvest produce from this garden would be responsible for planting and helping water and maintain the garden. Maybe there are monthly dues, etc. - not sure. Even after the summer produce is gone, you could plant fall crops. Even pumpkins. What a great way to bring the neighborhood together by growing pumpkins for the kids to carve and their parents to use for various pumpkin goods (pie, bread, etc). Talk about sustainable!

Anyway, I realize this idea probably has a few kinks and the typical day-to-day apathy you see over time might kill the idea. BUT, enough like-minded neighbors could really get something like this off of the ground.

My 2 cents.

Steve Hamaker
Fan of healthy living
Enemy of this fast-food nation

Re: CQ: Winter of What?

I like Winter of Wings or Winter of Chili.

Re: Ron Littlefield Caption Contest

So who won?

Re: Farewell, Summer of Taco (and the Winner is…)

What's the "Winter of ....." going to be? It's no different than your labels of Adam Green and Josiah Roe. You have no proof to your claims of either person and, as they are both friends of mine, I would LOVE to see your proof of these charges. That's when I start laughing, as I know you cannot show any proof. You just keep going down the same old road of constant negativity, false accusations and ridiculous conspiracy theories (IMO).

So, basically, "put up or shut up" if you're going to wrongly accuse friends of mine. This blog should be based on facts but all we seem to get from you and RTN is constant ranting and blather. Anyone disagree?!

Re: Justify Your Existence: green|spaces

Your disdain is sad. It's funny that she obviously doesn't know me. If she did, she'd know that as a small business owner, husband, and father of one, I don't have time (nor desire) to spend my energy on such nonsense. I can voice my opinion of our mayor without such a disguise and I've openly voiced my disapproval on most issues. I usually choose, however, to contact the Mayor directly on items that bother me, particularly the issues of parking fines and recycling.

As for Allison's open/obvious disdain for several Chattarati commenters, such as myself, I truly hope she has a sunny-filled day with heart shaped clouds and rainbow skies!

All my love,
Stevaker

Re: Justify Your Existence: green|spaces

Allison,

You support someone who's choice responses are things like "a** breath" and other immature, ignorant vulgarities? Brother Ron Fender is the Community Kitchen's Day Center Manager as well as a spiritual and social advocate for homeless people in the area. The Community Kitchen and Brother Ron ARE actually relevant to the NPR Main Street piece because Brother Ron knows the couple mentioned in the story since they are both homeless and one being a prostitute working on Main Street.

I hope this clears things up for you.

Stevaker

P.S.
