I guess accurascale launched their manor with samples in hand, before Dapol announced their intention... Duplication happens these days, gives the consumer choice.

Hi Eoin,

The cloud is the way to go - the natural evolution of all infrastructure services in my humble opinion.

There are some things, like very intensive databases, that are not ideal (yet) which should be resolved by VMware vSphere.

The high availability, scalability (horizontal and vertical) the cloud gives, allows you to sleep at night :)

Hi Darragh,

As you might know, we sold our shared hosting division - http://www.register365.com - back in May this year.

This has given us a very significant capital injection, which we are busy investing in lots of new and exciting things. We're working at the moment on a new website, as well as lots of new functionality for our cloud platform, and specifications and prices will go up and down (respectively) in the next month or so.

Already, we are running hundreds of instances on the platform, for customers like Cityjet, Tesco, Carphone warehouse and many many more, and we are very excited about the potential to replace much of the 'old fashioned' way of doing physically dedicated infrastructure.

Hi Darragh,

I'm sorry you had that experience, but the truth of the matter is that globally, and in particular in EU, the cost (and resulting end user price) for colocation has been increasing steadily over the last 3 years (more than 50% per annum). Telecity Redbus in London have more than doubled the prices they charge their customers in the last 12 months. As we hadn't increased our colocation rates in more than 5 years, we were simply not passing on our own increasing costs to customers.

We continue offering great value for money on our cloud platform, dedicated servers and larger volumes of colocation, and our colo rates are now inline with the rest of the Irish market (at 149.95 for a single server, we are slightly cheaper than digiweb, blacknight (the company's the offer single server colo) and our larger colo rates are well below company's like DEG, Interxion, Telecity and Eircom.

As for the word doc work-flow, yes, we implemented lots of changes in the last year to bring us in line with ITIL, ISO and other relevant standards, which in turn has allowed us to win more enterprise business (we are currently building out an 8k feet high-density expansion to our Park West datacentre) and we are working on a new web based system which will provide a huge range of features and services to our customers (including automated IP allocations).

I'd love the opportunity to meet with you, show you our plans and what's around the corner and perhaps interest you in some of our cloud services, or new platforms..

The API has been key for us, we'll be launching it soon, along with a new 'cloud' brand distinct from our 'regular' managed services offerings.

Not ot mention www.hosting365.com - we've been running a 128 node, 1024 core, 4TB RAM cloud since last March 2007 and are about to deploy a second site with replication and a full API.
